My mother is at Skaalen Retirement Services Inc. It's been very good. All of the caregivers are wonderful. The staff has been really helpful and concerned that she has the best experience possible. The room setup is nice, clean, and well-maintained. They have a covered area with benches outside that's quite large and nice. The landscaping is very pretty. There are lots of different flowers to look at and it's shaded. It's like a pavilion that has a top. They have activities out there a lot. My mom likes to be outside. They have a smaller covered area as well with a sofa and chairs. My mom's there for rehab, and we've loved the care. The staff has all been very nice to her. She's in a newer area, and it's very nice. I was in there every day for five weeks with her, and they were always very, very caring. They know me by name. I did not meet anybody who was not kind to my mom. My mom said the food was much better than hospital food. I have nothing bad to say about them. They have food available for the residents as far as beverages. There's always coffee available even for family. There are little soda cans and juice that are available. They've been very gracious. My brother lives nearby and they brought him a tray when he's come to sit and eat with her. They've made us feel really at home. They know what my mom likes, like the dietary aide knows that. She knows she likes fresh fruit, so she'll make sure she gets that. They send aides around before every meal and ask them what they would like for that meal down to what they want to drink. They get a meal plan once a week, but their order is taken before every meal. They have a regular entree. If you don't like that, there's an alternative, like a soup and sandwich or something that you could eat if you didn't like what was being served. They do special things. They try to have something in the morning and the afternoon each day for the residents of the whole place and they do their best to include them there and encourage them to take part in it. Because of the pandemic, they aren't offering as many activities as they used to. They have a crafts room, but they haven't made that available since the pandemic, and that would be nice for my mom. We're very comfortable having our mom there. We're very confident that she is getting very good care that's individualized to her needs. They've been very receptive to the concerns that we've had and things that we wanted to be included in her care. They've been very helpful.

Skaalen Retirement Services Inc. actually has independent living homes on their campus, so it's all one story, one basement, and it's got a small yard. But you can get some services there as well, and if you need to move on to assisted living, you can do that right there. So that was something that would be a whole lot easier for my parents to buy into. It was a nice tour. They gave us a lot of information. Everything looked good, and I liked it because they had those houses, but they had to have a year-long waiting list for them.

My mother is in Skaalen Nursing & Rehab Center right now. From my sister’s house, it’s probably 30 minutes away, and from my brother, it is 15 minutes away. Her room is small but adequate, clean, and very accommodating. They do a nice job.

My mother has moved to Skaalen Ridge and is enjoying life. She's has been there for three months now. It's perfect because it's all levels of care. They've have independent living to assisted to nursing care to memory care. You can just transition as you need it. She is in an independent apartment that includes four hours a month of nursing care, and there's housekeeping, etc. They have all kinds of activities. They have music coming in almost every week, bingo, arts and crafts, painting, and meeting clubs. She is involved in arts appreciation and they hold art shows. The staff is wonderful and they listen to what the people's concerns are. The food is well balanced, but could do a little bit more with the fresh veggies and fruits.

The staff was extremely helpful and kind. The facilities were very clean and well cared for. There was spirited decor and activities going on everyday. Amenities seemed to be very adequate including exercising rooms, communal rooms for tv and conversation, planned activities, and more. The grounds are well kept, especially nice in the spring. Religious services are held in a chapel on site, making things very accessible for residents. My great grandparents seemed to be content with their living arrangements here. They were very well looked after and in the case where something did arise, health wise, the local hospital is attached to the facility itself. It seems like a more dignified place to be when assisted living is necessary.

Well, I've visited this nursing home as part of a program and at first I hated the whole idea. I didn't like nursing homes, but after a short time there meeting the residents and visiting the facility itself, I loved it. I made many friends there both residents and staff and was very happy with the way the staff took care of the residents. Everything was clean and neat and everybody was so friendly and bright. Also, this nursing home is right next to the hospital which in a way is a very good thing. Accidents happen and they are all ready to take great care of whatever comes their way. The Skaalen Nursing Home is where i'd want to be put if i went into retirement!

Both my mother-in-law and my father-in-law did rehab here after a broken hip. The staff is very caring and considerate. They went out of their way to treat the residents with respect. It is a large facility, but kept in good condition. The rehab unit is newer and the rooms are larger but the rest of the building is nice also. They have a chapel which is nice for those who like to attend services on Sunday. There is a small room with tables and chairs and free coffee and cookies where families can gather. There is also a room which any family can reserve for a gathering free of charge. We used it for Father's Day and there was china and silverware and free coffee. The staff cleaned up the room after us. The Physical Therapy staff is available even on weekends to hasten your rehab. Medicare paid for services during this rehab, but because it is skilled nursing, Skaalen can get expensive once the resident is on private pay. They do accept Medicaid, however, once a resident is out of funding. The facility has a unique feel -- located in the Norwegian community of Stoughton, the common rooms and hallways are decorated with Norwegian rosemaling, making it look very homey and welcoming.
