Vista West is very clean and very well-managed. They had a lot of programs and activities. What resonated with me at the beginning was that they had a policy that everybody would wear name tags when they went down to eat. My mom's got some trouble remembering things so she could remember everybody's name because the names were on the tags when people were downstairs. That was nice and my mom has enjoyed her time there. The staff is very good. The receptionists have been fantastic. They set me up with a room so that I could come and visit Mom and I wouldn't have to stay in her room. She's got a one-bedroom, and they did a great job there. I left my toiletry bag and they shipped it back to me. I live in California. Mom's in Madison. So, they've been fantastic at that. The financial side has been very good. It's professional and it's direct charging. So, that's very easy. The folks who make the meals are very friendly. I stayed with Mom for a few days and they would come out and talk with the folks about what they were making and what are the specialties of the day. They had a very nice relationship with them. When she had fallen and cracked a rib, some folks were coming in in the morning and the night for medical assistance, and they were very friendly. It's just been a positive thing. My mom's still got a little bit of an edge on her. So, it is something very nice to see. The other people who are there have been very friendly to my mom. We haven't had any bad interactions. I just called her a couple of days ago. She had to have maintenance done in her room. The toilet wasn't working correctly or something, and she said the guy came almost immediately. He was very friendly and addressed the problem. Another thing that they do is they all call her by her name, so they know who she is. That seems to be their standard and maybe that helps with the name tags and things, but they're very friendly and know her name, which is impressive. The building is about two years old and excellently maintained. I've never seen anything besides very clean. No odors. Nothing. The activities are amazing. They even have a university professor come and give classes. It was crazy how much stuff was going on. They have a great workout area for physical activities, an art room, a place for puzzles, piano plays, and a theater. They have it very nice. When we looked around, the pricing was pretty much the same. It didn't look like that there was a huge differential. So for mom, it's like $5500 and that includes all the meals and having somebody check on her, which is great.

We went to Vista West. It was a good tour. Jackie, the community relations manager, was very nice and helpful. She asked a lot of questions about my father-in-law as a person to get to know him and his interest before we went and toured the facility, so that was nice. The condition of the place was very nice. It's pretty much a brand-new facility, so it's very spacious and clean, and there weren't any smells or anything. We were able to meet Dawn, the activity director, and she was willing to answer any questions we had. They had a nice outdoor area.

I was really impressed with Vista West. We are going to go today to relook at things, but the lady never called us back to verify, and that was my disappointment. The first time I went there, I was very impressed. It was like a beautifully decorated and impeccable place. There's balconies and all those things that I was looking for. The place was incredible. They have all the stuff you need there. It had wallpaper and beautiful furniture and it was quite impressive.

Having Dad at Vista West has been a very positive experience. He's enjoying it well. It's a fairly new facility, and the staff all seem to be very helpful and organized. His apartment is very clean and well-lit. It has lots of window daylight and it is well maintained. I've eaten there a few times and the food was really good. They've got a special every day and then they have a menu as well that you can order off of if you don't like what their special for the day is. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a lot of amenities. They offer a movie on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m., which is on the same floor as dad is. I think that's a cool feature and it's set up like a little theater with decent chairs to sit in.
