We placed our parents at Aegis Living Mercer Island because of its location and amenities. They have activities such as movies, classes, PT, and trips. I tried the food and it was great. One of the things I would like to see is an orientation for my parents about how to change from independent living to assisted living because I think it was difficult for them to transition from doing everything themselves to needing help and they felt uncomfortable asking for help. It would have been helpful to have that with the other residents that had been there a while about how it feels and how to use the system to the best of their needs.

Aegis Living Mercer Island is just gorgeous. It's new, so everything in there is big and impressive. They have great staff, and it was a great tour. Everything is just top-notch there. It's also very expensive. Maybe that would be a choice if you were younger and wanted to do a lot of activities there, I'm sure it would be just fabulous. But it just didn't feel right, didn't feel like a comfortable fit for us. They didn't have anything that was right. They had a 2-bedroom that had been put together as a single unit. They had a very lovely one-bedroom, but my stepdad didn't want a one-bedroom. So, as it was, they didn't have anything that was a good space for him. It just wasn't what he was looking for in the way of space. There's a huge buy-in fee for the community fee. It's brand new, and so it's spectacular looking. As far as physical facilities, it's absolutely beautiful. There are big, lovely spaces. They had the usual stuff, like exercise facilities, lovely dining areas and a bistro with all kinds of interesting food, the movie theaters, and all of that. Nothing wrong with the place and tour, it just wasn't what we were looking for.

My husband is a resident of Aegis Living Mercer Island. They're very caring and the community itself is welcoming. They're top-notch and it's very nice. They have a beauty salon and barbershop, a weight room, a pool, and a movie theater. There are also a lot of areas for families to gather away from the community. They have what they call a pub and then they have a dining room that you can also be a part of if you want to have more private conversation, unless you're in the room, of course. It's not inexpensive but we chose it I think because of all of the amenities and how clean and modern it is. Plus, it's only a mile or two miles from home.
