Mom's experience at Sentara Village wasn't very good even though we were there for a long time. It smelled like urine all the time. Their food wasn't good. The staff wasn't the same caliber as what they have at the place she's at now. They could go months without a director or a secretary. They played bingo once a week, and they had a gym that was never open the entire time she was there. Their bathrooms were so tiny, like closets, so you couldn't fit a wheelchair in there. They had a library and nice sitting rooms, but they only had one cafeteria where everybody sat in at one time.

My parents are in Sentara Village. It is topnotch. It is totally different from what I expect. Everybody is so friendly and very helpful. The place is very clean. The residents are all happy. I go there every other day and in different times of the day. My parents love it there. That is their new home. They adjusted the first day they get there. I do recommend the place, if someone else is looking for a place for their family. Not only do they have assisted living, right next door, they have a rehab and a nursing home. So, basically, my parents will be there for long term. If done with the assisted living or if they will go to the nursing home, they will just pretty much walk to the park's lot, and they are in a new home. Actually, my dad now is in the rehab there. The rooms are nice. They are huge rooms. It is a home for my parents. It is a beautiful room. The food is good. What impress me most is the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the place. The place is spotless. It is an assisted living with nursing home next door. So, for people who want to place their parents, they can keep their parents together -- either they are in the same room or one is in one building and one is in the other, but they can see each other each day because there is a short little walkway going to the other building. It is a great place for people who are trying to keep their with each other.

My mom is very happy at Sentara Village. The facility is very clean. There are no bad odors. The people are very attentive to everyone living there. They have lots of activities too. They serve quite good home-cooked meals. I would be happy to recommend this facility to others.
