The people at Renaissance of Annandale are very caring and efficient. My husband's room is small but adequate. The food is mediocre. The furniture in the common area is rather plasticky than comfy. Other than that, they have great physical therapy. They also do art activities, a lot of music activities, movie time, and a program in the morning and afternoon to work with the residents. He'd love to have somebody to play chess with though, but there's none. It is critical for people with Parkinson's, like my husband, to get their meds on time and they do an excellent job of that. They have been extremely sensitive and responsive to anything that I have asked them about.

I visited the Renaissance of Annandale with Jerome. He's one of the business managers of the facility, and we did a complete walkthrough of the community. It's sort of shaped like a rectangle. He showed me a couple of rooms, and one of them was like a suite room, the other one was a private studio. I had the opportunity to ask questions about the activities, the medical care, and the level of engagement for the residents. I had a positive impression of it, because it is dedicated to memory care only, so they have all the amenities at that place specifically for memory care residents. The gentleman I met was very informative, and he was able to answer all my questions. He basically kind of put me at ease that this would be a place where mom would probably thrive and be comfortable living there. There is a high emphasis on religion and staying connected with not only your faith, but your family, as well. Visits are allowed on three different days during the week, which is more than some of the other locations, and that's good. When my brother visited there last week, they put together a gift bag for my mom that had arts supplies, cookies, a journal, and just a number of different things. It's very welcoming that they would offer that, and when I stopped by today, they gave me more cookies to bring to my mom. The facility is fairly new. There are lots of lights and very soothing colors. They had the grab shelves, which are good for those who might walk unevenly, to give them stability. Everything looked very clean, too, and everyone I saw there was being attended to, whether it was a snack, or someone adjusting the chair so they could watch TV -- that sort of thing. He also showed me a courtyard area that was very, very nice. During warm weather, the residents can sit outside, and they can bring musicians or have barbecues. There's a little fountain that runs outside, as well. It's a chance for the residents to stay connected with nature. It looked like a very peaceful setting.
