We weren't too happy with San Marcos Rehabilitation & Health Care. What we liked best was the way they updated us, and the notifications they gave us. The least I like was that they had a couple of nurses quit during the time my mom was there. There's a high turnaround, so there is you never get the same nurse. So the care wasn't that great. They need to improve on the staffing. They had too many nurses come and go and it wasn't the same, so the care was never good. They had some exercise and activities in the morning, which was pretty neat. It was an older facility but you could tell that they hadn't modernized it to fit the times now. They had a gym, a little cafeteria, and there's a good outdoors with a walk-around area. That was nice.

My husband is currently staying in San Marcos Rehabilitation & Health Care. I'm not happy at all with him being in the memory care unit; They are locked down for two weeks because they had a staff person test positive for COVID, so patients are in quarantine. It's an older facility, and I was very unhappy with the room he's in. The furniture was ancient, and the whole hallway smelled of urine. I don't know how often the housekeeping might be working on that, but they do have housekeeping in there most of the time. The staff is helpful. There have been a couple of incidents where I call at least 30 minutes ahead of time to make sure he is cleaned and bathed or showered and changed. There are incontinence issues, so I make sure to tell them, to make sure they have a brief on him. There are more than several incidents where they did not do all of the above. I was not very happy because he did have some accidents out in the different visitor sections where there were other visitors present. They receive three meals and two snacks. In his hallway, outside is a little living room area with a TV in there. They do have a fairly new social activities director; they were doing a balloon volleyball. Medicaid is paying for his care, at this point, I am not out of pocket on any money.
