My parents are now at Alamo Heights Health & Rehab. It looks overwhelming at first because it's a big building, but it's very homey and smelled clean when I went in. Everything looked pretty much in order. My mom is very picky, but the meals are home-cooked, so my mom has things like turkey and real mashed potatoes. They bring the residents oatmeal, eggs, and bacon. I asked my mom how she liked the coffee, and she said it was very good. I thought they were taking forever to refill the coffee, but she said, "No, this is my third cup!" So, I am very impressed that she's eating more than just salads. They don't rotate the nurses. Monday through Friday, they have the same nurse in the morning until, say, 6 p.m., and they have the same nurse Monday through Friday for the evening shift. I don't have to ask who's working, which is a good thing because there's more communication that way. Otherwise, I wouldn't know who to ask for, and communication would get lost in the shuffle.

I wasn’t impressed with Alamo Heights. It looked like a regular standard motel to me. The place smelled, and that’s the reason my dad is not there. The rooms looked like motel rooms, some single bedrooms, and some 2 bedrooms.

I was very impressed with Alamo Heights Health and Rehab center. Their kind staff showed me that their patients are well taken care of. You could see the patients who resided here trusted and confided in the staff. I think this facility treats their members like family which is why when the time comes to place my mother in a facility we will be coming here.

I loved the fact that my dad got a private room. I know he was not happy about having to leave his own home...who would be. But the staff was very welcoming and he has his "own space" which he was happy to not share a room with one or two strangers. I know in a week or two he will adjust and enjoy his new home and all the friends he will be making there.

I went to visit Alamo Heights with my friends family the other day as moral support and I was very impressed. The staff was very nice and it looked like the residents all really enjoyed living there.
