My mother-in-law has moved into Legacy at Town Creek. It's for people with Alzheimer's and dementia who are trying to leave or who have a lot of trouble with their memory. It's a really beautiful facility. This part she's in called the Sarah Center had been remodeled recently, and it has some decorations and butterflies and plants and things like that. It's one big room with like a wheel with the nursing station in the center of it. The rooms come off of that so that the nurses can see everything around where the common areas are. There's the TV area and recliners and lots of windows and a big area outside that's fenced and safe for people to go out. We've been pleased with that. It's clean and well taken care of. They've been very good at calling us when she needs something. She has sundowning a lot, which means she gets very anxious in the evening. They're good about calling us and letting us talk to her. I haven't spent a lot of time with the staff. They were very good to meet us outside the day that I got there with her and they got her settled in very well. She likes the food. They tell us that she's eating well, and she says it's good. It's just things like meatloaf and mashed potatoes and green beans. I have met the activity director and talked to her and she seems very encouraging as far as the activities that they have. I haven't participated in any of them or been there when she's been taken to the activities, but they have something every day for them. One day, it'll be Strawberry Shortcake Day and they'll have them all come out and serve them strawberry shortcake and play music and things like that. They have tables set up in this particular part of the building where they can play with blocks and different hands-on-type games to help their memory. They have staff that works with them on those things. They have an Alzheimer's support group that we've been invited to but we have not gone to that yet. The activity director has invited us to all of those. She has a certain amount that she has to pay every month and then Medicaid pays the rest. They do take Medicaid at this facility, which was something that we needed. There were a few things that I wish were better like it was closer and things like that.

I had a friend who was a resident who recently passed. It always amazed me every time I came to visit how well everyone treats one another and the residents. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the amenities made you feel as if you were staying at a resort. The rooms are spacious and homey. The food is top restaurant quality, and I will always recommend this facility.

I have visited a few times for events and volunteer work. The rooms are very large and nice. The staff was nice and helpful when I've visited. They had a very large Thanksgiving meal this year which was really fun, you can tell the staff worked hard at putting it together, and they had live music. The activity department seems to do a lot of stuff with each unit (there are 5, its a HUGE facility). The courtyard has a putt-putt golf course and creek that is really pretty and is good for people in wheelchairs even.

My husband was a resident of Legacy at Town Creek and he was in the Sarah center. It was not good for him and we moved him. It was just too big. We were not happy with the care he was getting there. It was not working for my husband. He was not getting the attention he needed. Maybe there just was not enough staff for the number of people they are trying to serve, so they may be a bit stretched. You would hope that the staff are fully trained in caring for dementia patients, but not everyone displayed that. They would pull in people from a different unit who never worked on that unit before. Sometimes, they had to call in agency nurses, so it would be a different nurse every day and I was worried that they did not know the clients well enough to know how to care for them. That was my main concern. They have areas for different needs and the Sarah Center is supposed to be for dementia patients. His room looked like a storeroom and you would have to do a lot to make it look decent. It was not very bright or appealing and it was very small. The security was very good. I did not see any activities other than a TV. He was supposed to be provided special meals, but they were not good.
