My husband and I have lived here for a little over 5 years, and we absolutely LOVE it!!! Every month, there are many opportunities (trips, activities) for residents, the entire property is exceptionally clean and well maintained, and the staff are wonderful. The manager, Mary Gervason, truly cares about all of us, and is the main reason this community is the great place that it is. She's been manager for 7 years, and has very high standards for this property and how it should be run, how it looks, etc. The remainder of the staff, both office and maintenance/housekeeping, take good care of us, too. As I've already said, we love living here, and won't consider living anywhere else!

I like West Oaks Village because it's clean and nice. The space is good. It's not too little and not too big. The area around it looks pretty nice, too. It's not bad. The apartment has a microwave, a refrigerator, and a stove. You have to get a washer and dryer, but they have laundry on the first floor. They have a swimming pool. They have activities for the people to do. I think the staff said security was 24/7, and they spray bugs twice a month in your apartment. The staff who gave the tour was very nice and knowledgeable. She explained everything.

I was moving over to West Oaks from a place that I had lived in for seven years, and my worker didn’t secure the place for me. I was on Section 8, and they took an administrative fee, some kind of an application fee, and $150 deposit, and I paid all of that. When they found out -- and I found out -- that I couldn’t move there, they did try to hold the apartment for me for about three weeks while they got it straightened out, but it didn’t happen that way. I knew they would keep the other money, but I thought I'd get back the $150 deposit. They said, “No, ma’am. We’ll hold the deposit for you for nearly a whole month.” If I had taken the apartment, the deposit would have been there, but that was never put into my name or anything, so that should not have been retained. I should have been refunded for my deposit because the law states the deposit is different from other administrative fees, and the deposit goes to whatever effects the apartment, but there was never any official movement into the apartment. I certainly would suggest that they not withhold a client’s funds once they’re not admitted into their complex. The managers there were very rude. At the time, my daughter was trying to ask them why they can’t give our money back, they were really ugly about it. But maybe they’re not all to blame. I do believe it’s partly the housing situation, which was not properly addressed.
