I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom moved into Parkway Place three weeks ago. It's safe. The people are extremely attentive and helpful. And the place is modern and clean. They have one and two-bedroom apartments with full kitchens. And then they have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have full amenities. And they have convenience stores. The staff was excellent. They're helpful and knowledgeable.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother recently spent ~10 days in Care & Rehab after heart surgery, so this review is only about the skilled nursing wing. Her intake and care team was wonderful; I’m very demanding when it comes to my Mom and I will say they excel at their work. I’m not easily impressed with “pretty lobbies”; I want to see professional and effective medical facilities and care. I watched and evaluated their adherence to COVID and disease prevention protocols, the cleanliness of all parts of the facility, inspected the common spaces and any open storage or “staff only” rooms for fire and safety code compliance, checked for odors, and even observed how they were interacting with several “difficult” residents, who they were all treating with dignity and care. Any healthcare worker stays busy these days, but the staff always took time to check that Mom’s medications were correct not only with the hospital records, but also sat with me to ensure I understood and approved the complete list to ensure there were no mistakes. They made sure she had everything she needed, all was working and correct in her room, and that she was comfortable. She’s a picky eater, so they brought her special treats and extra things she liked throughout the day. She doesn’t want to ask for help and forgets to use her walker, so someone was always close by whenever she left her room (and they let me know when she WAS using her walker and cane as required). I came by every day and her room was always clean, she had fresh water/ice, snacks, and was happy about the day’s special activities and her personal care. They got her up and out of her room every day so she wouldn’t be completely isolated, and encouraged her to walk down the hall to “visit” the nurses’ station every shift in addition to her formal physical therapy. Her physical therapists, RN, social workers, CNAs, and other caretakers worked well as a team. Every day, a duty nurse would fill me in on Mom’s progress, updates on new appointments they obtained for her with our local doctors, and assisted me with ensuring all went smooth with insurance. A couple of days prior to release, her entire team met with us to discuss ongoing requirements for therapeutic exercises, physical limitations, and what to expect for a successful recovery at home. I was given a comprehensive summary of her stay and a list of follow up appointments she had in the coming months. This is a well-run, professional, clean and effective skilled nursing care site. As a bonus, it also has some inclusive resident activities, daily entertainment, and is thoughtfully designed with mini-libraries and common spaces, some “pretty” lounges and nice outdoor walking/seating areas.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for your kind review of our skilled nursing and rehabilitation services. We strive to make sure all residents and families feel seen, heard and well cared for. We're glad we lived up to your high expectations because we have them too. Have a wonderful day and best wishes to you and your mother!

I visited this facility

I visited Parkway Place. They offered activities, scheduled transportation, exercise and wellness program, woodworking shop, and a lot of different things. They had several different sized apartments, either a 1 or 2-bedroom apartment. I'm sure I saw a 1-bedroom, probably one of the smaller ones since it's just me. I told everyone I don't want a big place, and I'd like a very small microwave and a refrigerator, that's all. It's been several months, so I'm trying to remember specifics. The dining areas were very nice. Some of them had a formal dining room that was more upscale, and they said, "This is a place where you could invite your family to come and we'll be happy if you'd let us know. We'd have a meal for them." They had a separate room, too, that was a little quiet if you had a family that you wanted to celebrate something, so that was nice. I don't remember specifics about the staff, but there wasn't anyone that I was put off by or felt was rude in any way at all. They were all extremely nice, polite and very professional and obviously knew their job well and were ready to answer any questions. It was an open-arms type, "Please, if you come live here, we'll make sure you'll enjoy it." It seemed very clean. Immediately when you walk in a place, you could tell it's clean and they care, that it's sanitized and everything.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for your kind review of Parkway Place! We're glad you had a good experience at the community. Please reach out if there is anything else we can do for you. We would love for your to call Parkway Place "home".

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I am the friend of a Memory Care Resident. I used to work in Senior Care and Housing in Houston and also was an Advisor with A Place for Mom. The Memory Care Unit is under the direction of Miss Olivia who does a wonderful job and manages a caring group of professionals. Each resident is treated with care and respect, family and friend are welcomed, meals are good and entertainment perfect for the residents. I very much recommend that you put your trust in this facility.

Parkway Place was absolutely beautiful, and I could live there very easily, but I thought they're high priced. They offer 2 meals a day, and you get to choose which 2 you want.

My father-in-law has been in Parkway Place for 2-1/2 weeks now. We found them very helpful. It's a beautiful place. The meals, the space and the care are good. We're very happy. The staff has been very helpful and taking very good care of him. The residents seem nice. They have independent living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing. They have a lot of activities everyday. They have a dining room, outdoor space, a beauty parlor, and various groups that go on during the week.

Parkway Place is very nice. The apartment was smaller, and it is quite a bit more expensive than the other facility. About the staff, I don't recall anything good or bad. All of them try to treat you nicely when you visit. I know several people that know people that live there, and they are pleased with it. That is fine because everybody wants something a little different. The facilities are nice.

I am a current client of this provider

A friend of mine told me about Parkway Place, and when my sister and I visited, it just seemed like the best facility for my parents. The place was very warm and caring, and everybody was out and about socialising. Some places I went to nobody was even out of their rooms. They have all types of care so as they progress they can just move down the hall: they don’t have to start all over. The staff and the food are very good. Their unit is like an apartment with living room, kitchenette, and bedroom -- very homey. They have games, movies, church, bible study, exercise classes, and Spanish lessons.

I visited this facility

Parkway has independent living, assisted living, and dementia care, but they call themselves assisted living. My husband has dementia, so he had to be in an area that has special care, and I didn’t think they were any better located where he was. They have a long hallway; rooms all the way down to the sides. And if you are in the last room you’re out of luck. So like that, he has difficulty getting around. I know they don’t answer the lights very quickly, and if you are in the last room, which they were offering me, I would pick your chances of getting much service. The room was small. It has one small bed, one dresser, one TV and one bathroom, which he can’t use (can’t get the wheelchair in it and probably wouldn’t use it anyway because he has dementia, so it’s not good as to where he is). The location of the rooms needs to be improved. One long hall, rooms on every side, with twelve rooms down one side and twelve rooms down another, and the last room at least a hundred feet from any of the things that you do (the food, the entertainment). So it’s not very well set up. It used to be a situation where four or five rooms are clustered. They just have one big dining room where they had to sit all the wheelchairs and move tables to get everybody in. It wasn’t very large. I presume that everybody fits into it. I just didn’t think it was anything special. They have activities. You sit at the table and cut papers and do puzzles and listen to the people. None of that is really appropriate for him. He doesn’t participate in anything. I wouldn’t say anything bad about it, it wasn’t just right for him.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

We moved my mom to Parkway Place a couple of months ago. The facility itself is very clean, nice, and very well run. It's like a five-star hotel, and it has a very nice atmosphere. It is excellent. I have no complaints about anything. The staff and patient relationship is excellent. My mom participates in a few activities. She is not participating very much yet, but I think she probably will as time goes by. Her room is a one-bedroom, and it is very spacious. It has a lot of windows, so there's natural light. It has a very nice, big bathroom and a little kitchen. Their dining room is very nice, spacious, and very clean. It is decorated very nicely with white tablecloths. She loves the food.

I visited this facility

Park Place was a clean facility. I like the fact that they had a courtyard where you can go out and get sunshine. I also like that they had a diverse program for dementia and also for people progressing from dementia to Alzheimer's. I was very satisfied with it. I thought the people there were very friendly. I like the fact that there was adequate help. The one lady who gave me a tour, she was very kind. I would consider this place for my mother because the assistant director was very flexible. She was inviting me to bring my mom to see the place. I was impressed with her attitude in trying to work around what my mom likes and what she likes to do and so forth. Everybody seemed conscientious. When I went there, a group of people were setting up a service where people would have the opportunity to hear The Good News, and that was nice.

Parkway Place is just wonderful. It has beautiful green walkways, a beautiful pond, and they have an area where you can take care of your own garden. My parents love it. They have a 2-bedroom and a study, two bathrooms, a living room and a kitchen. The staff is wonderful and we're very, very pleased. It's fabulous. I would highly recommend Parkway Place.
