My husband moved into Texas State Veterans Home, and I think it's a fantastic place. The staff is wonderful, really helpful, very good, and the director is very helpful. The place is very clean ad very nice. The rooms are good, don't have a nursing home odor, and it seemed to be very nice. It's more reasonable than other places.

This facility has gone above and beyond for my husband. He is doing excellent in the memory support unit. He is offered activities through out the day and he is able to go outside to the beautiful patio. His nurse Ana and Cynthia are excellent and ensure he eats well for his meals. The ADON is very helpful and courteous and tends to our needs right away. His doctor visits three times a week and he has even called me on the phone to give me updates on my husband. The food is excellent. We had been at another nursing home and the food was horrible! It lacked flavor and presentation.

We tried for weeks in Aug. 2014 to get my father re-admitted into the Texas Veterans Home in El Paso. He had already been a patient there in mid February 2014. He is a 100% disabled Vietnam vet with dementia, a feeding tube in his stomach, and some pressure sores on his backside. He cannot feed himself or care for himself. He does not require 24hr. care, but he does require someone to re-position him in his bed every 2 hrs. and a wound nurse to clean and treat his pressure wounds every 2 days. The Texas Veterans Home would not admit him. We enlisted the help of the VA, but they still would not admit him. We had a meeting with the doctor who would treat him at Texas Veterans Home, together with the administrators, where the doctor said he could treat my father and would accept him as a patient. Still the Texas Veterans Home refused to re-admit him. The administrators says it's because they "cannot meet his needs" and "cannot meet our expectations", but we've heard all this too many times now at this and other facilities. It's just a smoke screen for the fact that Texas Veterans Home feels he is too much trouble. He is just the type of patient that the Texas Veterans Homes were created to treat, but they do not want to make the extra effort required to tend to his needs. They feel it costs too much money. For all of you who don't know, the Texas Veterans Homes are owned by Texas Veterans Homes and financially supported by the Veterans Administration, but they are independently operated by a for-profit company......and there is no profit in having a patient like my father. It's that simple.

I can't even begin to say enough on how wonderful this facility is. The staff was so very helpful from beginning to end. Having to place my father in a nursing home was the hardest thing ever but i felt confident he was in great care there. The staff there at Ambrosio Guillen home are the best and really do care about their patients.

The Ambrosio Guillen Home is a vast and cutting edge facility with an abundant and caring staff dedicated to meet the needs of its residents. Each resident has a personal dietary, living and recreational plan tailored to their specific care needs. The home features both physical and mental rehabilitation wings and has been at the forefront of senior care since its induction in 2005. Many local organizations contribute to its daily operations as volunteers and add to the diverse, but mostly, as the name would imply, veteran community. Residents work closely with the Rehabilitation and Activities department coordinators at their own pace and willingness; to contribute new ideas, voice concerns and get involved with community action outside of the home. This beautiful facility lay at the exact point where the sprawling open desert meets the northeastern side of the city and is the envy of many retirement homes in the area. It should be seriously considered by anyone looking for an assisted living complex in El Paso.

My father had a stroke late last year and my brother and I toured many private homes and other nursing care facilities in the El Paso area to determine the best choice for my father. The Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home was by FAR the BEST choice. It was clean, neat, tidy and the staff is amazing. The facilities are very nice and there are people actually participating in activities and PT throughout the facility. I was appalled at the other choices we had to choose from and am so grateful my father is a veteran and was able to get into this fabulous facility.
