My husband is at The Opal at Music City. The outside needs a lot of work, but the inside is very nice and the residents are all smiling, so that's always a good sign. The caregivers are very active with each of the members who live there. They have a beautiful area to watch TV and another area for games. They have an outside section that's completely secure and it's very nice and clean, but mostly what I brought out of there was the people who live there are all happy. They all like it and my husband had no problem at all when we first got there because it was so nice. You can decorate the room as you like. It was just very nice and also affordable. He has a roommate, which worked out well for him because he has somebody to talk to and visit with and do things. Some people have private rooms. I just think it's nice because they can decorate it the way they want. They have their own privacy. They can shut their door and leave everybody outside or they keep the door open and go visit other people with their doors open. They have an ice cream shop, a library, a media room, and a game room. Somebody comes in and they can get their hair cut, but it's not there all the time. You just make an appointment with them. The food's very tasty. They invited the whole family in and we all enjoyed it. It's not very nice on the outside, but it's very, very nice inside and it's not on a busy street, so it's secured that way. They have a lot of activities, so that's good.

The Opal at Music City looks a little dated, but clean. They seemed to know their residents there. It looked like the residents were well taken care of. I saw a room, but I didn't quite go inside it. I looked from the door and they're pretty a good size. Some of the rooms were a little crowded, but other than that, it looked like they were kept clean. The residents were all sitting at the table talking, but we didn't talk about activities. However, the place is affordable, and it looks like a good option for those on a budget. The dining area looked clean.

My mom has been in The Opal at Music City's memory care for a year now. It's a nice facility. The only reason why we are considering moving her is that they have so much turnover with their staff. The turnover rate is just too inconsistent for us, and we don't feel like she's getting the level of care that we would like for her to have, with the staff changing so much. Otherwise, it's very nice. It's just that small part that we're not too happy with. We're giving them another chance, though. They want us to let my mom stay there until the end of the month, and we'll make our decision after that. It's always very clean and it doesn't look like a nursing home. I guess it was an old hotel that was converted into assisted living. The rooms are spacious and it's just a very pretty place. I just think they have staff issues. They have a theater, a general store, and a little private patio. We went back to that place at least three times before we put our mom in there. The director had just left right before we moved her in, and then they had another director -- and more new ones after that. They had a new head nurse and another new one after that too. In a year's time, we probably saw three directors, maybe three or four head nurses, and caregivers. We see them there and then the next week, they're gone. Dementia patients have to have something consistent, but she's seeing different people all the time, and it's resulted in different issues with her because she can't get used to anybody. Their food is very good, though. They keep the place clean, and they also did not have a lot of COVID cases or anything related to COVID, so that's good. They have their activities on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

My mother is at The Opal at Music City. It's pretty good. The staff is very friendly, courteous, and willing to do anything to help. The accommodations are a little dated, but they are nice. It's a great environment. They have a lot of activities. They have shows, people come in and perform, movies, and games. It's a small community, and there are not many residents in memory care. It's developing, but they have great staff to resident ratio. She generally likes it.

Bristol Terrace Assisted Living & Memory Care was one of our two picks. The staff was very friendly, the place was very clean, and it was quiet. We enjoyed that. The room was studio-type, with a single, or double occupancy. They were doing crafts in one of the rooms, and this is closer to our home. We checked out both the assisted living and memory care.
