My dad has moved into Edgewood Vista in Sioux Falls, he's been there for about a week and a half now. He's in assisted living and he's at care level 2. It's more of a homey atmosphere and he just seems to fit in well. I think they pay attention to making sure that the little things are paid attention to. To what a particular client might like or what the patient might like. They're just very into details like that. I think they show, by doing this, that they really care. Tyler and Denise are wonderful. They stay in contact with the family and make us aware of any changes or anything that needs to be done. If there's a question, they're always available and just always so willing to help and go the extra mile. I think he's going to love it there so far. He says he thinks it's awesome. The place is very homey. They just redecorated or renovated after or through the Covid crisis. Everybody is friendly and very talkative and just very patient. They want to keep all the residents involved as much as possible to meet their needs. They have been impressive, so far. They have their chef and everything is cooked homemade. So, I think it's more tailored to each patient or resident and their special needs.

I toured Edgewood Vista - Sioux Falls. It was quite small. When you walked in there, the door was just locked right there, and you couldn't get in without someone letting you in. We stood there for a while, and someone came to open the door for us. And then that was like where the kitchen was, too, and it was a very small little kitchen. When you came in from there was the dining area and people were all just sitting in the dining area talking. And then there were kind of little wings that went off that had the bedrooms in them. The bedrooms were very small. You couldn't put a couch in there with a TV or you had just enough room for a bed. And there wasn't much of a closet, and you had a small half bath. And then across you had to go out into the main area to go to a full bath that had like the shower and stuff in it. You didn't have your own shower in your own room. The lady that we spoke with was very, very nice. She was helpful in trying to help us decide where to go and other places to look and stuff like that. But she just didn't think that was the facility for my mom either, and we didn't think it was either.

I am currently staying at Edgewood Vista Sioux Falls. What I like about this place is that I don't have to do the laundry, I don't have to clean and I don't have to cook. I also like the food and the staff is good and helpful.

I can't say enough good things about Edgewood. 10 years ago my great-uncle was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He willingly move into an assisted living home, knowing what his home life could become(his mother and father, and my maternal great-grandparents, both had Alzheimer's). The facility he moved into was ok, but it wasn't equipped to deal with him as his memory continued to falter and deteriorate. About 5 years ago we (he and I) looked into moving him closer to me, and into a program or facility that was better equipped to focus on memory. We visited two Edgewood Vista's: one in Minnesota(he's from northern Wisconsin and I'm from Southwestern Iowa, so it was a little closer) and Sioux Falls, SD. We loved both facilities. While I can't the amenities are spectacular, they are good and the facilities are clean and friendly. What makes Edgewood(at least the one in Sioux Falls) so great is the staff. They know what they are getting into and you can tell as hard as the work is they are good at it and treat the residents like people. The nurses talk to the residents about their past and don't mind the constant repeating. Many of them seem to really love their jobs and the care they are giving. Since he has been there his memory loss has continued, but it is at a much slower rate than when he entered. I visit a couple of times per year and bring my two boys, he still knows both them and me, something I wouldn't have thought possible 7 years ago. While I can't say the facility will "wow" you, I can say that the staff and the program have worked amazingly for my great-uncle.

The staff we spoke with and the lady who gave us the tour were very nice and friendly. They seemed to really care about my grandma's needs and what she would expect from an assisted living facility. This facility is a attractive from a physical standpoint and is kept up well and clean. The residents we came in contact with seemed mostly happy and comfortable. The location is also good. It is in a safe neighborhood, off of Louise Avenue, south of I-229. They pretty much had everything on location that a resident would need and want, they wouldn't have to go elsewhere to get the things they need on an every day basis. Another thing we liked was how spacious the rooms were and the layout of the living areas were ideal for what my grandma was looking for. Plenty of sun gets into this facility so it seems a great deal more bright and cheery than other facilities we visited.
