I visited this facility

The Blake at Edgewater was so super nice. It was the top of the top. It was very nice. Our parents visited with us. It's just gorgeous. It's in a wonderful setting. It sits by a man-made lake. They have outdoor seating areas that are just beautiful. They have a walking trail right around the lake. The dining hall makes you feel like you're going to a four-star restaurant. They have fancy menus. They can eat outside in the courtyard. There were just so many beautiful things. They had vaulted ceilings. It was a beautiful community. They're some of the largest floor plans of all the places we reviewed, which was one of the reasons why we wanted to go visit them. They have three different sizes. We were only looking at mid-size or large. They're midsized with 650 square feet and their large two-bedroom apartment was 975 square feet. That is very hard to find in assisted living. They were very nice. They had pretty much full kitchens. They didn't have a stove, but a very large kitchen area with a full refrigerator. It made you feel like you're really in an apartment. They had a very nice activity room. When we were there, we viewed them playing bingo. There's shopping and restaurants nearby that they do field trips to. I spent so much time on the phone with the salesperson, and we spent quite a bit of time chatting with the lady who gave us the tour, following up with her, and then meeting the person at the front desk. I also talked to their health and wellness director as well on the phone. I rated them very high with customer service, answering questions, and being forthcoming with information. We did not try their food there, but we looked at their menu and they set it up like a four-star restaurant. They have these fancy menus. You come to the meal and you make your order then, rather than a lot of places have you fill it out a week in advance, and then you come to the meal and you never remember what you ordered, and you always want what the other person has. This one, you sit down like you're really at a restaurant. You order on the spot. They have a full-time chef. I was very, very impressed. We thought my parents might choose this one. This was the best of the best. The only reason my mom did not go this route is because it's a larger facility. We were concerned if my dad was ever not with my mom, he would never find his way back to his room. He's not quite where he can be left alone. He panics if she's not with him.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father has moved into The Blake at Edgewater. I like the large rooms, the already set plans of activities for the residents that are there, the care that they get, and the security that's around the place, having to get in and out of the building. There's a great physical therapist that's helping my father get back on his feet, to hopefully get back on to a walker, and not having to be in a wheelchair. They encourage him to do things and he's getting things done where I couldn't, so that's been fabulous. They have a lot of family activities, too, and I've been to a couple. We had hamburgers one night, and there was a derby party for the Kentucky Derby and some other things. They try to get the family involved as well. The food is good, and Dad likes it. He loves breakfast. He loves the choices. You have a menu each day, so you can kind of pick and choose what you want and if you don't like any of it, you can always get a hotdog or a hamburger or chicken salad or just a salad. They give you lots of choices. They had little desserts that were fabulous. The facility is very nice. There's a lot of stuff going on every day. They have outings that you can go on and they plan events like whoever's birthday month it is, celebrity or whatever. They'll plan the entire month around that particular person. It's Jimmy Buffett month this month, so Cheeseburger in Paradise, and they had the place decorated up and all that sort of good stuff. Value for money is fair.

I visited this facility

Our experience with The Blake at Edgewater was very good. Monica led the tour for us and answered most of our questions. The rooms were big, bright, and roomy. We saw the menu. We saw the activities room, the rehab room, and the movie theater. I saw residents making jewelry and doing puzzles. The atmosphere was very good. It's brand new.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is a resident of The Blake at Edgewater for almost four years. Through my dad's journey with hospice, the love that they showed my parents and the compassion they showed my family was so incredible. I won't even consider moving my mother away from there even though it takes two hours for me to get there and come home. They're just great to her. I love that they get them up every morning and they're dressed for breakfast. People come into the community and do things with them, they'll play movies, music, or dance with them to keep them active. They try to keep them out of their rooms as much as possible to keep them engaged. My parents were in an apartment that we were able to furnish out of their home, and it was wonderful. Now, I'm in the process of moving mom to a smaller room since she doesn't need the large apartment any longer. Their laundry's taken care of and their rooms are clean. Everyone that works in memory care under the leadership of Magda, they are just incredible and I just can't say enough good things. The food is wonderful. The day my dad passed away, my mother suddenly started eating again, and dinner looks fantastic, it was meatloaf and green beans and they had dessert. They all sit in the dining room together that looks out over a courtyard that they have access to because there are no exits. I just can't say enough about them, they're great. And through the pandemic, my parents never got sick.

I like everything about The Blake at Edgewater. Mom has beginning stages of dementia, but the people there know exactly what they're doing. I was giving her meds, and they said those meds need to be 12 hours apart; nobody in the other place told me that. They know exactly how to handle everything, and it's a real nice facility. She's got a place to walk outside for approximately a mile and a half around the pond. It's set up really nice. She's in assisted living. She likes the food a lot better than where she was. The dining area is real nice. When you walk in the door of her apartment, there's a sitting area with a couch, TV and a recliner; a little bit further down is the bedroom and the bathroom. It's all in one room, but it has kind of a half wall to break it up a little bit. They do exercise and crafts. They go on trips. There's a lot of things they do. I was only there once. Every time I call, she's out of the room.

I visited this facility

I liked The Blake at Edgewater. It was very nice. They let me kinda get through, but I did not really get a great tour. I really liked it there, but I did not want to drive. I got to see a model suite in their assisted living, and it was very nice and I liked it. I did get to peek in at what it would look like in memory care, but I did not get much of a tour because of Covid. It was fairly new, which was really nice. It was very light, bright, and cheery. The staff was very forthcoming of what it would be like, how much it cost, and just very friendly. The place was in a circle, the hallways were wide, and it was set up for people in memory care. They were very clean.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for us, your feedback is invaluable. We are currently open for full in-person tours and would welcome you back any time to see first-hand the amazing community that we have. Our atmosphere is warm and inviting and very much a "family" environment. We have weathered the "Covid" storm very well and we are so thrilled to regain a sense of normalcy by inviting entertainers in as well as many outings with our residents. Again, we truly appreciate your review and hope to meet with you again soon!

I visited this facility

We visited The Blake at Edgewater. It is sort of independent, but there is level of care if they need it for the little stuff; there's a level-one and a level-two care. It is easier to budget that way. Right now, my dad is currently doing rehab at home, and he is getting better and better, so we are assuming he is going to be able to do independent living. It was good. It was a beautiful place with great people who were very gracious. The rooms were very nice, but I guess I have not looked at assisted living before, so this is all new to me. There is just no closet space, and that was kind of weird to me. But besides that, they had rooms with some good views. They also have a full schedule of activities and a beauty salon. They have more than my parents would need.

I visited this facility

My 88 yr. old father and I visited the Blake in March 2020. The Blake was recommended to us by my dad’s PT. When I reached out to them, I met the Director of Sales Marketing. During our visit/tour, my dad and I both agreed that Jennifer’s listening ear, care and attention to my dad was driven by a passion for helping seniors, not just a desire to fill an empty room. During our tour, we stayed away from areas occupied by the residents due to coronavirus. Everything we did see was very nice, clean and elegant. I was very impressed with the layout of the building and model resident suite. Amenities and activities seemed plentiful. We tried some desserts from the chef and it was delicious. I think my dad would be very happy here, once he is able to make the very tough decision to leave his home and permanently move to a senior-living facility. But, for right now, he just can’t bring himself to leave his house with 20+ years of memories of his wife (my mom) of 58 years.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My uncle and aunt moved into The Blake at Edgewater. We chose it because of locality, and they handle memory care. Most places in North Carolina would not allow my aunt who is a dementia patient and my uncle who has no problems at 95 years old to be in the same room or unit together, but in South Carolina, that is allowed. The food I had was fantastic. The staff I've met all seemed to be sharp. They cook all his meals. They have a big wide screen TV and they play all kinds of games on the TV and do exercises and anything to occupy them. My uncle takes my aunt out of their room and go downstairs and put her in the memory care room. There were 17 people in the memory care room doing games and activities. The chef was great, and my uncle is eating well. The price is very reasonable.

I visited this facility

I visited the Blake at Edgewater. It’s very nice, well-decorated, and with very nice apartments. There were not enough staff members to provide the care we need, but it was a very nice place. They have physical therapy rooms, but no one was there, and I did not see anyone doing activities.
