My sister is at Locust Grove and it's been a great experience. They take real good care of her and they keep me updated on everything. She's made friends there and she's doing very well. The staff is great. They are very professional and very caring. The building is very nice and clean. It doesn't have any odor, and the outside is very pretty with all the flowers, trees, and a nice patio. They have bingo, crafts, and Pokeno for activities. The food looks very nice, too. They serve it in their dining room in a family style.

We toured Locust Grove. We liked it. It was pretty nice. We saw a typical room. We walked up to the cafeteria. We looked at their activities schedule and meal schedule. The rooms would come with small refrigerators. I think they said that some people could put a coffee maker in there, but there wasn't a whole lot of room there. So if you were the first person in there, there's room for a couch and a chair, but if you were the second person in there, and someone else already had one in there, then that wouldn't work. The staff who toured me around was very helpful.

The staff was great. But, the administration is horrible. My stepmother was a resident of Locust Grove and really liked it. The problem came when she was sent to the hospital after falling and hitting her head. She was released and returned to the hospital a couple times. The last time, the hospital would not release her to Locust Grove because her condition had deteriorated to the point she needed care beyond what Locust Grove could provide. Unfortunate, but we had to find another place for her. Locust Grove is now asking for another month's payment because we failed to give 30 days notice! How could we have foreseen this? Ridiculous.

Locust Grove was very nice but more expensive. It didn't have a courtyard where you can go out, sit in the sun, and smoke a cigarette. It also didn't have a piano. The staff was wonderful. The rooms were a little nicer because they had a shower and a refrigerator.

My dad used to be in Locust Grove for rehab, and the place was alright. Most of the staff-members are nice and the place was clean. They have things going on for the seniors, and sometimes they have activities twice a day. They had a church service that I attended and people come in and sing.

The facilities at Locust Grove were very clean and kept up well. They were very personable; they took time and explained stuff. However, they didn't have many activities for the residents, especially the ones that were active.

Locust Grove is a family-oriented place, and the staff really takes good care of the residents. They have two dining areas -- one for the dementia patients and one for the others. Overall, the place is good for the people living in the West Mifflin area.

Locust Grove Senior Living was actually our first choice. The staff greeted us, the caretakers smiled, and they seemed to be outgoing. They had a separate dining room, separate recreation area, and a porch area. The Alzheimer's care is on the second floor, locked down, but they would be able to go out on the porch on nicer days. They had different activities for them to do. The room that they had available looked more like an apartment rather than just a room. We saw the menu, which looked very good, and they had a chef. If they don't want the special for the day, they could make whatever the residents wanted. They had a van that would take them to Walmart or wherever they want to go, a beauty salon, and a barber shop.

Locust Grove's staff and residents were very nice. The residents were all wheelchair-bound, so I didn't see anybody walking around. Everybody needed assistance to the bathroom. It wasn't an environment that my parents would want. It's an old but clean place. Unfortunately, they had a water leak, so it felt moldy, but they were in the process of fixing that. It's an older building and everything was old. The dining room had linoleum floors and looked like a school cafeteria. For somebody who would need their care, I think it's OK.

I thought Locust Grove was very nice. It was just too difficult for my sisters to go there. The staff was nice. The one-bedroom was huge and could fit a lot of furniture. The dining area was very nice and looked like a restaurant with white linen on the tables. It was really lovely. They treated the patients like they were in a resort and they were like guests. They had a menu. People were gathering in the lobby about to do exercises.

I chose Locust Groove for the lady that I had a power-of-attorney because the building was large, and I was looking for memory care. I had looked at many more, and they were usually more expensive and more of a hospital type. This one was an old school, and it looked more like your living room. It was excellent. The experience there was wonderful. She was there for four months, and there wasn't a mark on her body. She was beautiful until the time of her death. The rooms had showers, so they could put her in the wheelchair while getting into the shower and transferred her on to a bench and she was able to take a shower. That was something that not every place could do. The food was excellent. She loved the food. There was always something different. The dining room looked like you were going into a restaurant. There were tables for four. It was in a beautiful area. The activities, I thought, were outstanding. They had exercises. For instance, they had some foam noodles that you used as a kid. They cut them in half, and they were all in different colors. The activities director would have everyone in the living room area, give out the different noodles, and then they would exercise -- red noodles up, green noodles to the side, and blue noodles to the other side. Every day you had a different-colored noodle, you would exercise a little differently. They loved it because it also helped their memory, since they were color coordinated. I would absolutely recommend it.

I have my mom in Locust Grove, and I’m very happy with it. The thing that impressed me the most when I went there is how clean it was. That may sound like a small thing, but it’s not. It was clean. The woman who showed me around knew the name of everybody in that facility. She knew about their family, and she knew of everyone’s situation. It was terrific. I like the way they try to make everybody feel as if it’s their home. They don’t come down at the exact meal time. Let’s say they’ll come down at 10 and breakfast is a little over, they’ll still get them a little something. My mom is not happy because I moved her from Tucson and she loves there as it is warm, but here she sits in the lobby and talks to everyone. She has made a friend with a woman named Hazel, and she tells me about all of these other people. She seems to be adjusting. They have a memory care unit so she doesn’t have to change buildings.

I think the staff of Locust Grove was very accommodating and knowledgeable. They showed a lot of care for the residents, and they have been very good with following up with me. The rooms were very big which was really nice, and that was one of the things that impressed me. They also have a separate area for the memory care unit, and they had nice common areas.

The entrance to the facility is open and clean. The dining area is very large and clean. The resident that I know enjoys the food for all of the meals and she is a very picky eater. There are a lot of activities for the residents - even several that are trips out of the facility. That is nice for those who want to get out and about. There is a resident cat that the residents and guests equally like. The rooms are okay. The beds and furniture are outdated and don't seem very comfortable. Some of them share bathrooms with other residents and that can be very uncomfortable. The staff all seem friendly and helpful but I do not know how attentive they are since there are a lot of residents and a small amount of staff. The common areas are also okay - clean and open. I even think there is an outside area to take the residents to sit and relax. Overall, it seems to be an okay facility.
