I visited this facility

My tour at McKeesport Community Living Center was very good. I was surprised how huge it was and how many people live there. The staff was very nice. The amenities I don't really know about, but they have a great big room where you can eat if you want to. My aunt is there, and they have semi-private rooms. They were very clean and there's always staff there. They are $7,500 a month. The staff was lovely and very informative. They have a chapel there. I think they take them on trips sometimes on these buses. The place it's situated in is very pretty because there's a river that's right outside their door, and the people can go there on the grass. They have picnic tables and a big veranda in the front, so I thought that was good. It was nicer than I thought it would be.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

02/17/22 - My husband entered this facility June 2020 and there has been nothing but lies and minimal care. They never told me the amount per day/month, I never received a bill until Jan. 2021 and had asked for one prior to that. At the height of COVID this was the only facility that I could find on short notice to take him, which is a plus. They never gave me copies of the paperwork I signed and the billing office acts clueless when I asked them about specific items on the bill when I did receive it. Had I known that they would let him fall twice and hurt himself, no one seemed to know the reasons for the falls, lose 7 days worth of shirts, undershirts, pants, pajamas and 1 robe I would have never placed him in this facility. The only bright side is the Recreation Supervisor. The head nurse and senior nurse were absolutely untrustworthy. The head nurse had his wedding band and never gave to me until the Recreation Supervisor asked where it was, she had it for approximately 3 - 4 months before she gave it to me although she saw me at least 2 times per month. I do not recommend this facility for long term care.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My grandmother was in care at Kane. Her treatment there was terrible. She went there for rehabilitation after release from the hospital. The staff was abrasive and rude, the care was subpar, and she caught COVID-19. Once when she mentioned that she was served cold food and a Kane employee said “well, it wasn’t cold when I received it.” My grandmother felt she was not treated with dignity. She just died due to COVID. If the facility was vigilant about COVID protocols and treated those in its care with dignity, perhaps my grandmother would still be alive.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The facility is archaic. The therapy and nursing services are very good but the social work department is horrific. They do not return calls or messages and the supervisor is very rude and abrupt. 6 phone calls with urgent messages went unresponded to. My uncle was always slumped over every time I went in for a visit. At times I was there for 2 hours with no one checking on on him. Requested podiatry services several times.. never got looked at. The nurses and aides were very caring, but understaffed. Rooms are very old and outdated

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has been a resident at Kane in McKeesport for the last 7 months. Over the past several years, she has gone for rehabilitation at five different skilled nursing facilities after hospital stays. Kane is by far the best in many regards. The staff is responsive and attentive in every situation. Questions and concerns are immediately addressed. There is a physician for each wing that makes rounds 4-5 days per week. My mother says, "They really take good care of me here". Rehabilitation staff are great. I've seen many other people that I know from the area with family here, and they all concur with my opinion. Hands down, the best.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My husband is doing very well in John J Kane Regional Center. It seems to be very well maintained. The staff are very professional and very knowledgeable. The people that live there are nice. The rooms are not fancy. He has a bed, a television, a dresser, a little nightstand, a nice large window, and his own bathroom. They have a huge dining room -- which is nicely decorated -- and the food is very tasty. They do bingo and pirate games, and they go shopping and to restaurants. He is allowed to leave whenever he wants with the doctor's note, and one of us can go pick him up. They have a bird aviary, a computer area, and a snack area.

Kane Regional Nursing Center was terrible and the staff was disgusting. The environment was terrible; there was crying and screaming, people crying for help and getting none, and the aide was terrible. They all had a bad attitude.
