We got my mom into a personal care facility called Rivercliff Terrace Annex. I like its location to her church, which is right across the street, which is not far, so she doesn't have to feel cooped up and not be able to go to her church. We like the other facility but there were a lot of stairs and I thought it was a little dark in places for somebody losing their eyesight. I wanted it to be a little more open for walkers and all that jazz, so that's why we chose Rivercliff Terrace Annex, and I just like the atmosphere there. It's a nice clean home. They got a big TV room and dining room adjacent to one another. There are lots of like socializing living or sitting space off the front foyer. There are no stairs at all, which is what we were kind of looking for because of her eyesight. They were all very helpful. They showed us the room, and they told us what was included. There's a TV hooked up in the room, and there's no extra charge. You can have a beautician and she is right on spot on a certain day of the week. They have activities if they want to join in. Every day something is going on. All my mom has to do is come down the elevator and join in. They have been 'Bring me day,' they have bingo, and they have something called Farkle, which is a dice game of some sort. Then, in the sitting room, if you do have fairly good eyesight, you can work on puzzles and stuff like that and they're all sitting out. She gets assisted with her showers, which is great not having to worry about slip and fall, and there's always someone there. She seems to be fed enough because she said there's always too much smoke. What's not to like? She loves it. Everybody is so helpful there, my mom says. From the cleaning ladies to the workers and the ones that take care of the meals, they all are multi-tasking and so helpful. She says, 'I see people in and out all day long.' She loves it. I haven't eaten there yet, but she says it's delicious. They feed her too much. And she has a choice. Every day they give you a choice. If you want this or that for breakfast, this or that for lunch, and this or that for supper. She says, 'I've chosen on both sides of the menu, and they're all good.' She is not a picky eater. It's reasonable. Everything is all included. At some facilities, you get like TV is this much more, and if you get a hairdresser is this much more. It was one flat rate, one pay, and you're done. They were in the going rate to everybody else. But the way the facility is set up and everything is included, we thought it was a bargain. It's within reason.

Rivercliff Terrace Annex had a very open main floor. It had elevators, all the rooms were private with their own private bathroom, and there was a shower room on each floor. It was just a nice open layout and it was very clean. The residents were up and doing things. Nobody was sitting on wheelchairs. It just looked like a healthier environment. The two staff members we met were very friendly and very helpful. All the food was homemade and smelled wonderful. They get two choices for every meal, in terms of what they want to eat, so they're not forced to eat what's just being made. There's a beautician that comes in once a week, there's a doctor close by, and a really nice big patio with nice furniture for them to sit on. It was beautiful and had everything we were looking for.

The resident must be able to take care of themselves. They are given meals at a common table. There are NO activities at this facility. It is a nice, clean and more "home style" environment. There is no pricing guide, so the private room is priced on supply and demand!?

Mom stayed at Rivercliff Terrace for a couple of months. It was like a nice home and the staff was great and kind. But you had to totally take care of yourself to be there. I don't remember if they had two-bedrooms, but I knew they had one-bedroom apartments.
