We chose Saint John XXIII Home for my mom because it's available and it's where she wanted to be. The staff is very attentive and very focused on patient care. The food is very good and they have social activities. They have very good facilities, good-sized rooms, and sufficient space in hallways. They have a salon and they offer religious services as well.

Saint John XXIII Home is assisted living and there is a skilled nursing home attached to it. I think that's probably the most ideal at this point for my parents. I like the location of it. The staff was very friendly. I didn't taste any of the food. It was probably their lunchtime there and the people were eating. They had activities for the people. They had a separate area if people didn't want to be in the dining room. There was another area where they could go and have their meal if they wanted more of a private setting. They have chapel services. They have therapy there. It was smaller, so it was more feasible for my parents to get around. it's an older facility, but it's very quaint. It's been around for several years, but it has a lot of updates to it. The atmosphere was welcoming. It seemed calm. The facility seemed clean. There were flowers around. There were different decorations that made it look homey.

This was a facility that I toured when trying to decide what facility to move my parent into. When I showed up for my scheduled tour, I had to wait half an hour before someone came to give me a tour and it seemed very rushed. I asked to take pictures of the empty room and bathroom to show my parent and family members the different layouts and was told I absolutely could not do that. Which was wrong, I know pictures are fine as long as no other patients are in the pictures for their privacy. The staff working when I toured the facility weren't friendly. It could have been a bad day when I toured but the first impressions I got weren't impressive.

My mother is in John XXIII Home. The reason we choose it is because we are familiar with it, and we have other family members that have gone there. The staff seems to be very caring and knowledgeable. The facility is very clean. The rooms are very spacious. It is a place that has people that she knows. When I am there, they have like a picnic and they have like hamburgers and hotdogs and stuff, but as far as I know, my mother says the food is very good. I think she is doing more there than she did when she was living by herself.

John XXIII Home is located in Hermitage, Pa. It is a part of the Roman Catholic Diocese Of Erie. The facility was relatively clean from what I have observed. The staff at John XXIII Home ranges from very kind to very unkind. Some of the staff members were warm and welcoming, but I noticed that when some of them did not think any outsiders were looking, they were not very nice to some of the patients. The food at this facility is average. I would classify it as neither good nor bad, however some of the patients really enjoy a few of the meals. Some of the services that John XXIII Home offers are: physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Nurses are a members of the staff as well. I am not an expert on rates of various senior home care agencies, but the accomodations at John XXIII range from approximately $90 - $500 per day.
