I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

On the memory care unit, you r loved one will be fine as long as they sit quietly in a chair or recliner or lay in their bed all day. They want the residents compliant. If, on the other hand, your loved one is active and likes to interact and visit other residents, it will be frowned upon. Also, the staff does not seem able to follow a simple request to have your loved one's meds crushed and taken in applesauce or pudding. This is a nursing home unit, at best.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father is in Homewood at Plum Creek nursing home. He needed to have full-term care, so he had to go into a home that has several levels of care. It is a community that has cottages for independent living, they have assisted living for people that just need meals but they live independently within the building, and they have assisted living and memory care levels. There is accommodation for all levels of care if you will. Concerning to the personal care he's received since he's come into the community, it's outstanding. They have medical care that is ongoing with their staff always, at least for my dad, checking in on his physical well-being with blood pressure and health-related checks that need to be done weekly or twice a week, meal service, and laundry service. Everything is included for the level he's needing at this time. I truly couldn't have found a better place for him to be. It's a continuing care community providing a range of living options from independent living to assisted, to skilled nursing and people can move from one level to another. They've been there for more than 85 years. There are two beds in his room, so two residents are in a room type or in some cases, there can be one resident, it depends on what is needed. There's full care there. He gets assistance with whatever needs he has. Initially, he needed help with certain things. There are people there who need help with bathing or eating. In his case, he needed more care as he was healing and now he needs assistance. He's in a wheelchair, so he needs assistance getting up and he's able to get that as needed. He's able to ambulate in his wheelchair, but whatever he needs, if he rings his call bell, they're there. The ratio of care to residents is excellent. I get weekly or twice a week update on how he's doing, his physical wellness, and if there are any issues. It's ongoing communication. We have meetings every three months on the phone. It's an excellent team. The teamwork and the ratings that the facility recently got from the Department of Health or whoever it is that gives them a review, was top-notch. Everyone from the cleaning staff to the supervisor of nursing, OT, PT, they're all very dedicated and they care about each person as an individual and look to meet those needs individually. It's not a one-size-fits-all. They are engaged every day in several activities. It's expensive, but you have to think about all they're giving from housekeeping to care to medical care, the room, and the facility. Just the commitment of the ratio of people to what he's getting is exceptional.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I am a retired clinical psychologist and pastor. In those roles I visited dozens of care facilities. My wife was a resident at Homewood for three years. The care she received was superior to any other care home I know of.

Homewood at Plum Creek is a good, but expensive facility. My mother-in-law's apartment is adorable, and it's perfect for her. The staff is good. The food is good, they provide good choices, and there are reasonable prices. They have crafts, bingo, and musicals. It's all around good. I have nothing bad to say about any of it. The activities are good. She's been there a long time.

I visited this facility

Homewood At Plum Creek was like walking into a resort, but we could not afford it. It was like a country club. They had beds available right away, but we'd have to win the lottery to be able to consider it. Anybody that can afford it, that should be number one on their list. You can live there until you get older or your health goes down until you need to be in the nursing home part of it. It was just phenomenal. The services were off the charts. The dining area was like a restaurant. They have everything you need, plus the rooms were singles. Everything was like being in a hotel. They also offer a la carte items. You have four or five things to choose from the menu and they have different activities at different times. The chapel was a little extraordinary.

Homewood At Plum Creek is a very nice facility. They offer a lot of good services and they seem very professional. It seemed very clean and well-kept. They were responsive to my mother's inquiries and the people we met while walking through were very friendly. The rooms were very nice. We visited one of the bungalow cottages and it's a very nice layout and very accessible to any type of physical capability.

I visited this facility

While my interaction with the nursing staff was limited, the events coordinator was wonderful and so helpful. He truly had the interests of his residents at heart and very positively guided groups to activities that the residents would most enjoy. The few nurses that I did interact with were amazing. They were receptive to the requests of their residents and completed most tasks with a smile. I was most impressed with the number of activities that were offered to the residents. The calendar was full of organized church services, sing a longs, and concerts. The facilities were immaculate. I was able to tour common areas, personal cottages for the more independent residents, and rooms of those within the assisted living area. While the rooms were not exactly what I would consider to be spacious, the size was in line with what I have seen at other nursing facilities. The amount of personalization that they allowed their residents was uplifting. Residents were able to have their own chairs from home as well as lamps and other decor. While I did not personally experience the food at Homewood, the residents all seemed to enjoy what they offered.
