My mother-in-law lived in the Hampton Fields Village before she moved into an assisted living place. I've been there a couple of times. It's very clean. They do a nice job for the money they charge, the food is very good, it's a very nice facility, and the staff is great. They do all kinds of stuff there.

My mother has been in Hampton Fields Village since May. It's a beautiful environment, a quiet neighborhood located next to a medical center, which I like because if she needs something, the center is next door. So she can go there if needed. The food there is outstanding. They do a nice job of modifying if somebody wants something different, without mushrooms, or without onions, or something like that, they meet with the chef and they talk with them overall. They also offer buffets for breakfast and supper. So if you don't like what's on the actual supper menu for the evening, you can maybe get something off of the buffet, or you can have both. My mom likes the food there. The residents are very nice. They're welcoming for the most part. They do have transportation to and from events. They have a lot going on in their calendar or their activities. They have a lot of outdoor seating, which is nice. A lot of options. They can go out the back and enjoy a gazebo, a nice landscaped area with flowers, and whatnot. They could sit in the front of the apartment building, or sit on the porch, and there are two different sections there. Plus, my mom has a little side porch near her apartment, so there's a lot of space outside where they can sit and enjoy the scenery outside. They do movie nights once a week. They make popcorn for the seniors. They go somewhere every Wednesday. They have a Wednesday outing, my mom's not able to participate in some things because she's a dialysis patient. But from what I hear, they're fun, and people there seem to enjoy those events. But they do things in-house also. They'll bring in entertainers. They bring in foot doctors and ear doctors into the residence so you can sign up and be seen by a doctor when they're visiting. They have cooking classes. They play bingo and pokeno and events like that, too. They've just had a really big event for Christmas in July. They did a full week of events. They have probably like 20 different types of rooms. But she is in her own room and the sizes of the rooms vary also depending on what you want, what type of room you want. She has a small kitchenette area. She does not have a stove, but they don't need it because they feed them every 4 hours. They do three meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They call it dinner and supper. And they'll have ice cream day and things like that periodically for the seniors. She has her own bathroom. And it's a nice size bathroom. It's wheelchair accessible and handicapped accessible. They do have the life-alert watches that they wear. And then if she falls out of bed or something, it alerts the front desk and then they check on her. We've had times where because she's a dialysis patient, we've not been able to get a hold of our mom. She doesn't answer the phone. We'll call the front desk and say, Can you go down and check on her? And they'll go down and check on her for us and report back to us to let us know that she's okay just to make sure that something did happen after dialysis. My only negative so far is because she's a dialysis patient, a lot of their activities are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. And I've asked the manager if they could start moving things around a little bit so my mom could enjoy some of the activities. And that's not happened a whole lot yet. So I would like to see that happen more, to be a little bit more flexible so she can enjoy the things that they have going on there. She kind of feels left out of some things, so I'm still working on that. And then there are times every once in a while where they're not able to take her to her appointments because they have these outings with the residents. And then there are times when we have to provide our own. They give her a full week's notice though, and they'll tell her, "we're not able to bring you home on Wednesday coming up on this day." And so they do give her enough notification. And then there have been times where we just got notice that she wasn't going to have a ride to or from this week on Wednesday. But then the driver went and talked to my mom today and I guess he worked it out. So he is going to take her. So it's nice that they do try, I guess it's just depending on the availability of a driver.

The Hampton Fields Village seemed like a good fit for my mother. It's an independent living and they are also going to help her administer her meds since they have what's called enhanced care. We found a nice room for her there and she will be moving on April 24th. She will be under independent living but with enhanced care for her medicine. Our first impression was very nice. She will be getting 3 meals a day, they have activities, and she has a room with a balcony that overlooks a courtyard. I think they could keep her busy, hopefully. The staff who assisted me during the visit was very helpful and answered all of my questions. They have music, they played Wheel of Fortune the day I was there, and they have bingo. They have activities for the residents. There's a hair salon there that is important to my mother. There are church services with 2 different denominations of churches. There's access to the medical building, the UPMC medical facility, right next door. From beginning to end, we were very pleased with it. That's kind of why we chose it for my mom.

My parents lived here for almost a year, unfortunately. My dad's health degraded, and they had to move on to a facility with more care due to my father's decline. However, I can't say enough positive about Hampton Fields. My mom misses it terribly. It is a great place for high functioning elders. I heard many residents say "If you don't like it here, you won't like it anywhere". It was a very up-beat, happy place to be. I enjoyed seeing the joy of the residents. The entertainment is fantastic, the decor is beautiful, the food is great, the place is clean, the workers care about the residents, etc. They took my parents to mass every Sunday, then there was a reception back at Hampton Fields after church with coffee, donuts, camaraderie and laughter. There were many outings (casino, restaurants, etc.) that my parents enjoyed tremendously. Their time at Hampton Fields left us with fond, happy memories. I'm sad that it ended too soon.

Hampton Fields Village was extremely helpful, very pleasant, and nice. They offer three full meals a day, and all utilities are paid, including the cable TV. They come in and clean my mom's room once a week, change her bed, and take out the trash. They also offer a van to take you to doctors' appiintments and shopping. They also have a lot of activities. The food is fabulous and I enjoy eating there with my mother. The maintenance is very helpful in fixing anything right away, hanging pictures, and putting things in storage. The staff is very friendly and the concierge is very helpful.

The downside of Hampton Fields was their units do not have a stove. But there's a refrigerator and a microwave. They provide three meals a day and they will also provide housekeeping. The staff was nice but I just get very mixed feelings about the place. It's a very nice facility. For the right person, this could be the right place. It's just not the right place for me.
