I have chosen Avamere at Sherwood for my wife. It's very nice, well-kept, and clean. The employees seem very capable, and the levels of service as described seem very good and adequate. The facility seems pretty good. They provide visits to grocery stores, perhaps to tulip fields, to perhaps wineries, and to different things like that around the area.

Extremely high turn over of staff. Poor management and consistent medical errors. It's an unhappy place to live. We moved our family member out quickly.

I went to Avamere. I liked it, but for my mother, it's a bit too far. It was clean and updated. I spoke with the manager for about an hour. He gave me a tour and was a very pleasant fellow. The dining area was very nice and pleasant.

Avamere at Sherwood was pretty good. The room was large, had a nice view, and was priced well for the size of the room and so forth. My three siblings and I all discussed our feelings because the place where we put our mom was so bright, cheery, and comfortable, and this didn’t feel quite the same way. We just felt like it was a darker, less friendly, less open place. We had a fine lunch there, but we ate in a private dining room as opposed to eating out in the dining room. It seemed like residents were just eating and then leaving without open discussion or friendliness amongst people or tables.

I haven't seen many assisted living centers close up before, in fact this is the only one, so I don't have anything to compare Avamere to; but this facility is exactly what I would hope to see in an assisted living facility. The location is great, it is near a fairly large park and also quite close to two large supermarkets (Albertsons and Safeway), a bunch of good restaurants, and a Target. Inside it looks very clean and modern and along with the rooms being comfortable, there is an abundance of nice common spaces. The best part had to be the staff though. From my experience of meeting them a handful of times, it is obvious that they really do care about their job and the people they take care of. And I might add, I heard nothing but praise from the tenants themselves.

Getting a room in this facility was a fairly painless process. The staff members were all extremely helpful and nice, as were many of the residents I was fortunate enough to meet. The facility was very clean and well-maintained. Everything always worked, nothing was ever broken. The furniture in the main recreation area was comfortable and clean, as were the beds in the rooms. They have bingo and many other board games to play with the other residents. It's very easy to socialize and make friends. They also have a delicious restaurant in the facility. However, these are all things that should just happen; they shouldn't have to be explicitly noted, especially taking into account the price to get rent a room. My only complaint about Avamere is that it is very expensive, but it is well-worth the price if you can afford it. My mother always talked about how much she loved living there. She had many friends. The location is also great, in that she was able to walk to the store from the facility. There are also parks nearby.

I'm looking for a facility for my Mom and I think I have found the best! Friendly staff and high standards. Best of all, Mom likes the way she was treated. With RESPECT.
