My son and I visited Scandia Retirement Community in August of 2013. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the apartments and also the transpiration provided for people who don't drive. I moved here in September of 2013. I have enjoyed preparing some of my meals and am also aware that Scandia is close to many places to eat. some of them within walking distance. They will also pick up prepared meals for you or take you to the grocery store to buy supplies. Scandia is surrounded by grocery stores, a library, a doctor's office, and a beauty shop. Wow. We are so appreciative of how the amazing Scandia staff is so actively involved in the Life, Health and Wellness of it's residence. We love the Seniors and their zest for life. The staff pampers them with cruise ship like services and we love enhancing the lives of seniors with reflexology massages. It's retirement done right.

Scandia Retirement did not have consistent dining room service. It's also unfurnished, so you have to buy your own furniture. They take residents to their doctors' appointments and bring them back. If you give them a shopping list, they'll do some shopping for you for things you need in your refrigerator and room. If you want take-out food, they will go and pick it up and bring it to you.

I visited this facility extensively and talked numerous times with administrators about moving my parents there. We ultimately decided to move them to a retirement community because it provided meals in a dining room, but in retrospect I wish we had chosen Scandia instead. Here's why: First of all, it offers 2 meal plans; a resident can either choose a meal plan or opt to have food brought in from whatever restaurant or fast food place he or she wishes, paying only for the actual cost of the food itself! So much better than being stuck at a place where the food is marginal but the resident is required to pay for it regardless of whether it's eaten or not. Next, Scandia has a lovely courtyard with beautiful flowers, a fountain, and outdoor seating. Also, it has a very clean, uplifting coffee "shop," community gathering place, movie room, etc. It's in a nice neighborhood but is close to a new Walmart Neighborhood grocery store, church, and library as well. The rooms are equipped for seniors, with emergency call service and security. Such a nice place. A friend recommended Scandia because her mom lived there; they both loved it. So sorry my parents didn't get to live there.

I will be moving in to Scandia. It is a retirement community. Their apartment has a small kitchen, a refrigerator, a microwave and a dishwasher. I want a place where I can do some of my own meals and this is a fit for me. I thought the bedroom is pretty small, but other than that I thought it is just what I needed.
