We went to Crystal Place Assisted Living. The best thing I liked about them is they're affordable. They don't charge extra for giving medications. It wasn't the nicest place I've looked at, I think she said they built it in the late nineties. They were remodeling, they were doing painting and what have you. I didn't get to see a complete remodel, but they received me well, and they were friendly. The studio apartment was about the same size as the studios I've seen, it was a little bit small, they have a studio plus that's slightly bigger and $200 more. They had a one-bedroom apartment, it was nice sized. We sat in the dining area. There was a kind of a dayroom where there was a TV. People could gather there and watch TV and visit with each other, but they didn't show anything else. The staff were very good with the residents. There was one resident singing along and so he was all smiles and happy. One of the employees came over and patted him and said, that's good singing there. So I know there was some attention, some affection, and that's very important to me.

My father is at Crystal Place Assisted Living. He has been a resident there for two years now. I wasn't as involved when he moved in there. I helped him move in, but I didn't meet that staff all that much. My dad sometimes can be a handful and that's for sure. Sometimes he definitely would give them attitude, and he gets angry. They certainly got tired of assisting him just because he's a grouchy man, but he didn't feel as if he was getting enough assistance there. The rooms are large, but not the best in quality. It was kind of like wooded floors, and the bathroom was horrible for him. He tore up the frames in the bathroom. The bathroom is the first door to the left, there's not much privacy to it because a lot of times they leave their door open. He already managed to tear the door off from the bathroom just because it's so difficult for him to get in there on a scooter. So privacy was an issue, and the location of the bathroom was a problem. He even tore up two rooms there. He was in one room and then that room was not handicapped accessible, so he messed that room up. They moved him to another one, and they said it was more handicapped accessible. It was larger, but still, the location of the bathroom was horrible, so he ended up tearing it up. He can't make that tight corner bend and his eyesight isn't as good as it used to be. Sometimes he hits something because he doesn't see it, so he just keeps on going and makes it all the worse. My dad loved the food. He liked to cook. His only complaint about the food was the time. They eat at 5:30 in the morning, then they eat at 11:30 and then at 3:30. He didn't like how early he had to wake up to make it to breakfast. He usually went to bed at 7 p.m. is what he said. He would like the time to be pushed back for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was too early for him, but he loved the food. He likes to play board games because they do have board games there. A lot of times the problem with him was finding someone else to play with, and that'd be difficult. There are far more women than men in the population. He always finds it difficult to have someone else to play with. They have events like bingo, but I don't think they play it very often. As far as I understand, he is bored quite a lot. They got a library, so they got books. They don't have a courtyard and there's no gym. There's not a whole lot. It's the cheapest place out of all the ones I've seen. They're far cheaper than all the other ones.

The staff is very friendly always smiling. The residents seemed happy and you could see the staff has a good relationship with them. Very homey and comfortable. Also, smells clean and fresh when you walk in.

the facility was inviting, friendly atmosphere a small community which allows for more personal one on one care. Food smelled wonderful when I walked in. Activities where taking place residents seemed happy and structured. Staff was able to answer all my questions and give me insight and direction as well as other resources that would be helpful to my mom.

My mom is at Crystal Place LLC, and they have been good so far. It has been an excellent fit so far. It has a good price, the staff works so hard, and my mom really likes it.
