We chose to have Mom at The Lakes of Sylvania because she was there for rehab, so the transition from there to assisted living was easy for her as she was familiar with the staff and the caregivers. The facility allowed us to come in and bring the things that would fit into her room. The employees are very nice. The PT department was excellent. Now that she's in the assisted living, they do crafts, bingo games, and a lot of activities with the family. Every Friday, they have a little happy hour where they get drinks and have music, so they have a fairly active schedule. My mom likes the food. It is awesome. They have a family night very frequently for families to come in, as well as brunches and things where families eat with the residents. It's a fairly new facility compared to the others in the area and athough it could be a little cleaner, it's set up very well. The assisted living rooms are roomy. They have a microwave, a small sink, and a small refrigerator so they can have some of their own things. They are very nice with a great big shower room in it.

The first time I visited The Lakes of Sylvania I may have recommended it. It sure looked nice on the surface .... what's deeper that matters. Their treatment of my grandmother was beyond reprehensible and showed complete disregard for her wellbeing. They were supposed to be her care facility. She was in nursing care (not assisted living). They refused to assist with her adjustment to the facility, were complicit with over medicating and "snowing" her, and when we stopped that from happening the facility began demanding she move - although they refused put the request in writing. I spent the night with her at Lakes of Sylvania. The night shift nurse called hospice out in the middle of the night to give her more medications - except as the hospice nurse noted my grandma was sleeping peacefully and not in need of additional medications. When the nurse came in around 4AM she aggressively yelled in my grandma’s face asking her if she was in pain. To which my grandma told her no. The nurse asked me if I wanted them, there were two people attending, to adjust grandma in the bed. I said yes because she’d shifted and did not appear comfortable. Rather than having the aide, who was standing right there, assist her to gently lift grandma using the half sheet the nurse aggressively rolled her like a burrito in the half sheet and hauled her up the bed herself. My grandma cried for five minutes after she left and kept asking me, “who would do that to a person?” The nurse showed complete disrespect for my grandma as a human being. Many of the other staff were very friendly and at least a couple were wonderful to my grandma but all I heard from staff while I was in the facility was “we just don’t have enough staff.” That is an unacceptable excuse. For what Lakes is charging they should absolutely have more than enough staff to ensure that the things I witnessed do not occur such as: residents left sitting in the dining room for thirty minutes because no one was available to take them back to their rooms, my grandmother waiting thirty minutes or more when she pushed the call button, and my grandmother left crying because no staff was coming after she pressed the button for assistance going to the restroom. I lifted her myself because no one should be left in that situation. How awful would anyone feel being left in a situation where they would be forced to have an accident? Lakes’ treatment of people is not only disrespectful it’s inhumane. The only thing Lakes did was make a difficult situation worse. They made it harder on my grandma and harder on my family. So beware. If you or your loved one going into a facility BECAUSE YOU ACTUALLY NEED CARE this isn't the place for you. If you can care for yourself they're all too happy to take your money.

The Lakes of Sylvania is excellent and I like the staff's availability. The rooms were great, they're one of the few places where rooms were furnished. The dining area was very clean, nice and open. They had a ton of activities which is one of the things I like about it. They have people doing different kinds of things, like they have exercise and bingo available. What appealed to me was that if my dad wanted to do something there's something he can do with a group. Every day they also had a bus that goes offsite, like going to the grocery store of if you want to get out you'd be able to. I worked with Madison, and she was fabulous. So in comparison to other places I have visited, this place is way ahead.

We choose The Lakes of Sylvania. It is very good. It is a brand new building with brand new staff. They are still in the caring stage at this point. The dining area is fine. The room is a little bit on the small side. It is adequate for her needs.

The staff was very inattentive. My family member had a foley and they did not provide proper care. My family member became septic.
