I've been appreciative of The Lakes of Monclova's good care for my husband. Most of the staff are very willing to answer questions, and if my husband requires something special, they listen and do what they can. All of the areas are very kept up and very clean. They're just getting into the activities, but what's interesting is because of COVID, they would point in the direction of everybody's TV and they would play bingo in their rooms. They have a happy hour on Fridays; they're starting to pick up on their activities so they can play the different games and things that people can participate in. The food is good; my husband doesn't dislike their food. Overall, I think they're a good facility and I think they understand the needs of their residents. We've been to a few others before, and I like this the best.

I liked the atmosphere at The Lakes of Monclova best. I think it was designed for the age appropriately. I liked the simplicity of it and the hominess. It was very cozy.

I toured The Lakes of Monclova for my dad, and I was very, very impressed with them. Their assisted living director showed me around the assisted living. I went through that, and I went to the memory care building. Out there in the memory care building, the person who was in charge was just really phenomenal. She has a great idea and a great plan for the residents. She considers everything - their rhythm and their routines. She schedules everything according to how the residents respond during the day and what their rhythms are. I can't say enough about the memory care side of things. When I walked in, it was right around noon and I said, "Oh, something smells really good." and she said, "Yes, that's exactly what we try to do. We put something in the oven so that they can smell it." All the residents were coming out of their rooms because they could smell the food. They knew that it was mealtime. It was great. What better way to get them out as opposed to going in and dragging them out? She just has a really good grasp on what kinds of activities to do when. It's homey, but it's also that they're being observed. You get the feeling that it's not too big, so that they can't wander off somewhere where they're not seen. It made me feel comfortable that there were enough people around if something were to happen. Something else that I notice is that the residents were very quiet. They weren't agitated, weren't upset, and weren't yelling. I've seen different places where memory care can be very chaotic, and this was not what I saw here. I'm pretty sure that's where we'll end up, but I want mom to take a look, too. When I was there smelling the food, I was watching the people come up. Obviously they were anxious to eat, which doesn't always happen.

Until COVID 19, I was somewhat satisfied with the level of care my mother was receiving. But now NO WAY! They kept the Covid-19 pandemic secretive, I could not get any information. Then I learned that not only was my mother positive, but that there were many deaths at the facility and that they used hydroxycholoroquine to treat COVID 19 positive residents. UNBELIEVABLE!

I visited The Lakes on Monclova, but I did not find their staff as caring as the place where my loved one was. The rooms were small with a very small kitchen and a small refrigerator. The grounds were not much, but adequate. They had trips to places for shopping or stuff like the movies. They had an activity room. The food was well-prepared with adequate portions. They had an extended care facility, and they had just living areas. It was all on one floor.

I’ve moved my mother in The Lakes of Monclova. I’m comfortable with it. The people that are working there have done a fantastic job. So far, I’m pretty pleased with it. The rooms are good size. They have good size bathrooms with their own shower. They keep them very clean. So far, I’m very pleased with it.
