My friend is a resident of Otterbein Marblehead SeniorLife Community. He is living in independent care with assistance and Otterbein has that type of care. It is very much his apartment, however, all of the meals are provided, and he gets help with medicine. He gets help with showers because he's not stable on his feet. He said they take him to the grocery store and places to go out to eat. They have a lot of activities for the people who are there. My friend said he was so happy because everybody is so nice, the staff and all the people who are living there. Everybody gets along. They have a good time. They provide haircuts, dental, and eye appointments, all right in the facility. They have a good unit for the people who are accustomed to working with older adults who have memory problems. My friend has the beginning of memory problems and they take good care of him. His quality of life has improved greatly as a result and they've been happy. They even have a shop where they can do crafts. He gets three meals a day. It's a restaurant, it's like you're in a private club. They have a special every day, a full menu and they will bring the food to your apartment. The facility is well maintained. The layout is sprawling, so when you're older it's a little confusing.

We went to Otterbein North Shore. They're very caring, and we've got several calls from them asking if we have located a place. One of my friends is in their bungalow and two are in the nursing facility. I've seen what they have to eat, and the food seems good. My friend's family is quite happy with the facility. I think it's one of the better ones in our area. They take people on trips, and they have games. They have a good relationship with the residents. Every week, the local newspaper features people who are staying there and comments from them. They have good public relations. It's a lovely facility. They have beautiful yards, and they have little shops. It's a good life experience for them.

We did a virtual tour of Otterbein Marblehead SeniorLife Community and got the layout and blueprints. We were the one who moved my dad in so we did get to see the place when we moved him in. The only thing I saw was the outside of his room, which was delightful. He's still in quarantine right now. He's happy there, and it's actually very much like a hotel kitchen, but it does have the tiniest little stove, a small but complete refrigerator, and no dishwasher. They have a big bedroom with a very nice and big handicapped bathroom, and a decent sized room. They also have another room, which is a pretty good-sized room with cathedral ceilings and it opens to the outside. So the first room people use as a bedroom; there's no closet, but they provide you with two wardrobes to hang stuff in. There are plenty of hook ups for cables in both rooms, and they have a very nice little patio with an outside door. It faces the parking lot, but at least they can see outside; everybody decorates their little porch area with plants. The independent living is considerably cheaper and they add other services to it like help with baths, laundry, and meds, but it's still cheaper than the assisted living because it's just more like you need temporary assistance. The staff members that I met were very nice, accommodating, and friendly. The guy that came was a nurse, but he helped us put together the cable system and told us how we could get assistance from the right person. They have activities for the people that are not in quarantine, they're not really going places, but they have things they do within the community. They also have a wood shop, crafting room, and beauty parlor. In terms of the value for the money, it's pretty inexpensive; I was surprised.
