I didn't particularly care for Genoa Retirement Village. It's too expensive and the care wasn't what I thought it should be. When I visited, there were about 20 patients gathered around the nurses' station and some were laying with their heads against the wall drooling and not being taken care of. There wasn't a nurse in sight. I was very displeased. The administrative staff was a four, but the nursing was a one or a zero. It was terrible and it smelled of urine. I was told that she was going to be in a room by herself for quite some time until she got used to the place, but they put her in with another lady who was not able to hold a conversation. The bed was very low. She couldn't go to the bathroom on her own and she had to wait every time she had to go to the bathroom, and there were several times when she urinated on her own clothes and then the place just smelled really bad. The lunchroom was very good. The hallway didn't smell that good, but the food that they delivered to the patients and to any guest was very good. The first night that mom was there, a man came in to her room and they said it's not unusual for men to wander into another room that they don't belong in, which bothers me. The staff should be controlling what goes on. They didn't take care of her like she was supposed to, especially for $9,000 a month.

I would suggest Genoa Retirement Village for someone who is looking for a place for their loved ones. They serve home-cooked food and I think that is very important. The rooms are very nice. Everything is up to date, nothing worn and looked cluttered. If the carpeting starts to look worn they would replace it. I like their nurses and the care they are giving. The only thing that they could improve on is they could provide a room where they could actually take a tap bath. Overall, I am satisfied with this facility where my parents are.
