My mom has been in independent living at Cambridge Village of Wilmington for three years now. Her overall experience here has been very good. The community offers a lot of amenities, and you could take part in all of them. There's something here for everybody. Her room is beautiful. It's a very large one-bedroom with a balcony. For the most part, the pandemic has put a strain on everything. Maintenance maybe is not as quick as it used to be or housekeeping. It's just because of hiring and people being available for the jobs, but I wouldn't blame on Cambridge Village. I think everything is suffering from that. When I've eaten there, I've had a good experience. Sometimes, the food isn't served as hot as it could be or it's a little too salty or spicy. It's an aging community, so it might be too much for them, but they try. They are willing to listen and make adjustments. They have an indoor pool, everyday constant activities, games, bingo, they have a bus that will take them to the store or the beach, or they'll have social nights out. There's a lot. The calendar is full. You could go from morning till night. They have a movie theater and religious services. You can partake in a lot here. The staff members are all very nice. They're stressed a little bit sometimes and understaffed a little bit sometimes, but that's just the current situation right now. They're trying their best. It's quite expensive here.

We toured the Cambridge Village of Wilmington. The person who gave us a tour of the place, it was a fairly new experience for her to be given a tour because we walked in unannounced. She gave us a tour of the only apartment available at that point, which was a smaller apartment. It was too small for me, but the closet space and the bathroom space were much nicer. I think some of the larger units that I did not tour would have been a lot more appropriate for me. Each of the units had a balcony, not necessarily allowing you to walk around outside, but to get out of the apartment, every floor in particular. The facility had people that were up moving around, all different phases, and different kinds of activities. I was much more impressed. I only met a few staff and they were great. They're very knowledgeable and I was impressed with what I saw.

Of all the places I've been to, I liked Cambridge Village of Wilmington better. All the activities they had were great. I liked the layout of the exercise rooms and the amount of equipment that they have there. Then they have some onsite medical personnel. I liked the availability or the option of transportation if I need to go someplace. Residents could have movies and games, and there's a lot of open space where I can go outside and sit, read a book or something. The staff was great, too. I've been there a couple of times, and every time I go in, they know me by name.

My mom is in Cambridge Village of Wilmington. They call it optimum living. It's not called independent or assisted; they call it optimal living here. It's one big facility. It's very independent and what they have is an Interm program. Depending on the residents, you can get different packages that they will assist in whatever she needs. There is a basic package, where they get 2 visits from a nurse daily. There is also a different package that is more upgraded, maybe up to 3 times. If you have a resident that needs to have 24/7 care, they offer that too. That's something that they work with the Interm. If you come in and basically don't need anything, you don't really have to buy or purchase anything like that. You just simply live in a single apartment and have all the facilities. They have all the residents' needs here. The staff is very accommodating. They help very much with getting around. As you need or become more dependent on help, you can get together with Interm, who works hand in hand with Cambridge; then you can buy and increase the amount of medical personnel that the resident needs. It's unique. My mom used to be an independent living and after that they provided too many people stopping by to support and then they automatically moved her to a different one when they thought she needed it. Here, it's all up to the resident and her family. They work in conjunction with Interm. Interm has four different levels of care that they can incorporate with the resident's care. It's truly a very independent living facility. The majority of the residents are pretty much self-sufficient. They are able to take care of themselves and are able to use the facilities. They live in a very, very carefree, very independent type of controlled environment, so it's nice. That's why we chose this for my mom because in her last facility, she was very restricted. It's exceptional, and they do a great job here. They're very nurturing and very supportive. Even just the small things, like helping her back to her room if she gets a little disoriented because it's a big complex. They're very informative. They have a great system set up, and the staff is outstanding. All the staff (from the restaurant to maintenance) are nice. We've been here for 6 weeks now, and they've gone above and beyond. The way the food is set up here is almost like a restaurant. They don't just have a dining hall. They actually have a restaurant downstairs, and they have a bistro upstairs on the 3rd floor. She can go in, and they have specials and she can order off the menu. The only reason I don't give them a 5 star rating is that they make all the food down in the kitchen and you've got to bring it up to the bistro. You have to wait a little bit, and sometimes for the older folks they don't like waiting. My mom is one of them. They have a lot of various different activities. ranging from strength to conditioning, and from advanced to beginners. They have the pool here too.

Cambridge Village of Wilmington had a lot more to offer for our grandparents. The living atmosphere there is also different. They were more independent, while others felt more like a nursing home. Although it's very expensive, it's because everything is included. My grandparents are going to have a two-bedroom apartment, with a balcony, high ceilings, and hardwood floors. It's very nice. During the tour, we saw the dining room area and got to taste their smoothie bar. They have a movie theater and a pool. They go on field trips and go to church. They have a bowling club, a poker club, and you can even start up your own club. If they don't have the activities that they want, they could suggest it to them.

My visit at Cambridge Village of Wilmington was very positive. The impression of the staff was very good too. The food was delicious. It's well served and well appointed. I talked to two staff members; they're well qualified and well-behaved for what they're doing.

I have a close relative at Cambridge Village. There is a lot to like about this place. The staff is terrific and the programming is quite good. However, there are major problems with their food service and that's what I want to address today. The problems seem to fall into the following categories: 1) They are constantly running out of food items that are on the menu. This is a significant source of frustration for residents. 2) They offer almost no flexibility. If you want to substitute carrots for the sweet potato that comes with your chicken, you are likely to be told that they cannot make the substitution. 3) The quality of the food is very uneven. Sometimes good and sometimes poor. 4) There are few healthy choices available. I'm really surprised and disappointed at how inattentive management is to the problems in the restaurant. Most other aspects of Cambridge Village are quite positive, but the food service has major issues.

I visited Cambridge Village. It's new, bright, attractive, and they have large apartments. Every apartment has a balcony, which is important to me. There are plenty of activities and a large indoor salt-water pool with a hot tub and sauna. There's a large dining room, a cafe, a good-size bar, attractive outside sitting areas, and a theater with regular movie-style seats. They have arts and crafts, speakers, a writing club, and trips to different places, like the beach, doctors' appointments, and concerts. They also have a full-time doctor right there. It's an extremely attractive and welcoming place.

I didn't care for Cambridge; it was way bigger, and I didn't like the person who took me around. We walked half a mile inside the place and the staff was not sympathetic. She showed us a 1-bedroom apartment; it was lovely and arranged very nicely, but it only had a partial kitchen, and it didn't have a balcony. It didn't have storage facilities -- you have to pay extra for it per month -- and it was located elsewhere in a big crate. I didn't like that at all. They take you to doctor's appointments, but it has to be between 10 am and 2 pm.

Cambridge Village had three different dining areas, so you have your choice: one had menus, one was like a pub, and one was really casual.

My dad already moved in to Cambridge Village of Wilmington, and it's just so much better than the other ones. The staff was very friendly. Everything was much better. Everything was great. They had a theater, and a bar pub. They also have a full wellness center with exercise equipment, and indoor swimming pool. They were also building another wing that's going to be done in less than a year, and it's for assisted living. They have a lot of activities. Dad's really happy, and that makes me happy. Cambridge Village is less than a year old. The staff was great, and everybody loved working there. The residents that were there loved it. I talked to a lot of them. It had a regular restaurant menu you could choose from at any day, and they would change up the menu every 2 months. It's very nice, but a little bit more expensive.

We haven't moved yet, but I think we will be going to Cambridge Village of Wilmington. We like everything: it's brand new, beautiful, and the price is right, and it has an indoor salt water pool and a lovely hair salon. It just has everything, and they're close to the medical community down there in Wilmington, which is nice. The grounds are lovely.
