    I visited this facility

~January 2015: Mom (age 95) was there for rehab after a bad urinary infection and disorientation, and hospital stay at Novant Hospital (AJ Memorial Hospital had no beds available). The entire staff was wonderful. Problem ... there are too few of them to go around and they have long hallways. Many times I saw them running to answer a bell. Everyone cared and tried to do everything they could to help. There are just not enough bodies to go around. There was never a mishap on drug dispensed. If the government spent less money on making the hospital beautiful and more on staff at the nursing home, we would all be better served. We do not need the "lastest" and "bestest" ... we need more good people. The nursing home is like a very poor sister. For shame on the powers that be.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

The employees seemed mediocre and quite understaffed. When my friend used her call bell to ring for assistance it took 20 minutes for anyone to show up. Then it was only to tell her that she would be with her shortly. I looked out in the hall an hour after lunch when this occurred and only saw one nurse passing medicine to the other residents. They avoided my eyes when I looked at them. When I went to her (Miranda) she said that an assistant would be with her shortly. When I asked if she could help she smiled politely and told me if my friend could give her a minute she would be right there. While she seemed friendly enough she didn't come to the room. Although a nursing assistant I hadn't seen before did come in. She helped my friend to the bathroom (35 minutes after she rang her call bell). The facility is usually quite clean, it's well maintained although. My biggest complaint would have to be a round of rashes that seemed to be going on every time I went there. Which was maybe once a month. I heard one of the staff mention scabies, but when I asked my friend's family about it, they told me it was nothing more than a bad skin rash. They were told by the Director of Nursing, Michele, over the nursing center and the acting Director, Miranda, that it was nothing to be concerned about. I don't know I've seen scabies and it certainly looked like that on my friends roommate. Although I'm sure if it were they would have isolated patients who had it. Like they do in the hospital, with those gowns and special footwear.I've seen much worse places though, my grandmother was in one place and she got bed sores from not being moved around enough. I guess this isn't the worst. Although I have seen in the local paper how they had an award of some sort. From my point of view they needed a lot more work to deserve that.
