My wife has moved into Countryside Secure Memory Care. When I went there, there was full of life. It's a small place. They have 36 patients and it's dedicated to memory care. There are people in varying ranges of comprehension of what's going on around them. But the primary thing seemed to me to be the fact that it had a decent ratio of employees to the number of people that were there. The number of people who were in the place was not overly large. It's not a humongous organization. It looks like it is trying to look as pretty as possible, but it seems to be doing the job and keeping things for my wife working. It was the original impression of the contrast between what I had seen in other places and the fact that this one seemed to be full of life, with lots of activities, things were going on, and nobody was being ignored. It seemed like the right kind of place. Getting her in, I took up the last available place for what that's worth, so they're full for now. My wife has fairly advanced dementia at the moment. It was one of those things trying to take care of her at home and discovering I really can't manage that. I did try their food. At one point I was feeding her and ate some. There were some comments that I did see about the fact that it tended to be more southern recipes styles. I thought some of the things were a little unusual or a little out of the ordinary for them. The food seemed to be good, but I didn't have much more than to sample myself. My wife is actually in a shared room. I wouldn't call it spacious. It was nice and clean. There was one odd thing, but I think we've overcome that, there were some things I took to help decorate the place that seemed to have disappeared. I spoke to the employees there, and they managed to search around and find the things that I was looking for that were missing, and they seemed to be back in place. They have music, which I'm very fond of myself like a sing-along. Then there are other typical things like bingo, coloring books, and physical games. Some of them were doing what's called pass-the-ball around. It's some sort of an exercise, but it also seems to be a game as an activity. They seem to have quite a wide variety of activities that would work. Part of the thing that got me there, in the beginning, was that it seemed like everything was very active and the people were very much integrated as a group among themselves. It seemed more like a family. Also from the point of view of what I'm getting for what I've seen around for other prices, it's probably within reasonable limits and not running over them. What I've seen of the staff, they seem to be very dedicated.

Countryside Village is a Memory Care community located in the serene and peaceful country setting of Pikeville, NC.
The licensed 40-bed community is designed and specially staffed to accommodate seniors who require daily supervision or personal assistance in a secured environment, but who do not need the complex medical attention provided by a nursing home. Countryside Village serves residents and families throughout Eastern North Carolina from a large geographic area including Goldsboro, Wilson, Raleigh, Kinston, Smithfield and Rocky Mount plus many more surrounding communities. Our goal is to create a safe, caring, and stimulating environment for our residents and to offer their loved ones peace of mind.

Housekeeping services are provided daily to ensure that our resident’s suites are clean and neat.
Some families prefer to do laundry for their loved ones, but we offer laundry services to our residents. We will wash bath towels, personal items and bed linens as needed and return them folded to each resident’s suite.
Each residential suite and bathroom is equipped with an emergency call bell that alerts staff when a resident needs assistance, so help is always available.
Our community also has on-site foot care services, available through On-Sight Senior Care. Trained professionals visit our community quarterly to provide foot care services for our residents, alleviating long and tiresome trips to the doctor’s office.
The community has an on-site Barber/Beauty Salon for the hair care needs of all our residents, provided by a professional independent hair care specialist.
Countryside Village owns two vehicles for community outings and doctor’s appointments, including an activity van that is equipped with a wheelchair lift to accommodate our residents who need special assistance.
Our distinguished memory care program is specially designed to reflect our residents’ personal interests and encourage a sense of meaning, purpose and success. We have created a unique activity program designed for people, some of whom may have cognitive impairment that may include dementia or Alzheimer’s, who can benefit from an intimate environment and a highly trained staff. We liked Countryside Secure Memory Care very much. It had a big outside area for the residents to go and walk in. The lady who gave the tour was great. She was very careful and was a wonderful person. They had a patio, barber/beauty shop, and a lot of activities for their residents (like music concerts and outings). The dining room was also very big, very nice, and very open. We just liked everything about it.

My dad has late stage Alzheimer's, and he is beyond assisted living. Countryside Village was my second choice for him. It was fairly up-to-date, more modern looking, and cleaner unlike some other assisted living/nursing homes, which are old looking.
