My mother has been in Kingston Residence of Hickory for two weeks now. It's an independent and assisted living facility in Hickory, North Carolina. It has a rough capacity for about 90 people. She is currently at a high care level, and she is doing quite well. The facility has been doing a good job with her. We feel very good about her being in the facility. The room was completely redone when we moved in. She is in a hotel studio room. It's relatively big, and she seems to have liked it a lot. It has a kitchenette and a bath in the room. They also have one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. They have lots of activities for independent as well as assisted living. They have three meals a day, they have lots of games and shopping activities, and a shuttle. They have a courtyard, which was a very nice area, a covered porch, and lots of space to move around inside and out of common areas.

The rooms at Kingston Residence of Hickory were larger than any of the ones we saw. I liked the fact that they have licensed nurses round the clock, and they have a health physician who services the residents. I actually met quite a few of the staff, and everybody was super nice and very friendly. In fact in the end, we've decided that it's the facility for my parents. We ran into a lot of the same people who were just very outgoing, making you feel at home, whereas in some other places, it's rare that you get to meet anybody in the halls or have anybody speak to you. It's a pretty place, I like the layout of it, and everything was clean. The halls were not cluttered, so it was very easy for my parents, who have limited sight, because they don't have to worry about running into things or dealing with obstructions.

Kingston is a wonderful option for senior living. The rooms are apartment style and are very nice, the staff are attentive and kind, and the residents seem genuinely happy. Their dining room area is large, and they have hostesses that come take your order- there are a lot of food choices! They are one of the few assisted living communities that I know of that offer 24 hour nurses. It is a really lovely building.

I looked at a lot of AL's in Hickory and this is by far the best. The first thing I noticed was how welcoming everyone was! My mother was hesitant at first, but now when she comes to stay with me a few days, she can't wait to "get home". Their medical team is fantastic and I love they have a full-time nurse practitioner.

They are always understaffed and the residents don't get the care they deserve. When showing a potential resident the facility they hide the residents that they don't want anyone to see.

Kingston had lots of activities, like crafts and shopping trips, and always somebody on call to help you. I really liked the environment and food. I didn’t like the rooms since there weren't any studios, but the grounds were very nice; they had a big garden in the back and nice pond.

We considered Kingston although the price was really out of our budget. The staff was great, always friendly, right on top, and efficient. The dining room was nice and the food looked good. The rooms are roomy, they’re nice, but I did go on one floor that smelled so bad, it took my breath, and that was a drawback. They had all kinds of activities. They had almost everything you can think of.

My mom has been placed at Kingston Residence. The rooms and staff are good, with a good ratio of nurses or assistants to the people staying there. She needs the assistance to properly manage her meds, which she gets there. They have things like bingo and exercise class; she might go to a Bible study.

Kingston makes a good appearance with all the renovation work they have done. They are horribly understaffed and a lot of the CNA's leave because of this. They need to pay them more money. The food is awful! When they are staffed the care is good but no one can work under those conditions.I worry about all the patients including my family member.

I went to Kingston Residence of Hickory. It was a little bit too expensive. It was a very nice facility. It was upscale.

We were very thankful to have my dad at Kingston from 2002 - 2013 and highly recommend this facility. During that time, I had the opportunity to see and get to know many people on the staff well. They demonstrated a genuine love and concern for the residents there and they often went the "extra mile" to help the residents and to provide for their needs as much as possible. Having had the opportunity to volunteer for events, from time to time, gave me a deep appreciation for how the staff worked together as a team and see them gladly "filled the gap" when needed. If the time comes when I'm unable to live at home, I would love to have the opportunity to live at Kingston. I have sweet memories of their love and care for my dad and will always be grateful for the opportunity to have had my precious dad under their care. May God bless those who faithfully minister to the many needs of the residents at Kingston of Hickory.

We visited a couple of places, and we like the ambience of Kingston Residence. My mother-in-law has been there for two weeks now. It's an architecturally nice place. The apartments in different sizes are nice and spacious. They allow people to bring in their own furniture. They are very accommodating. They allow small animals, and she has a small dog with her. It is independent in the sense that she has her own apartment, which is a two-bedroom apartment with a bedroom with attached bath, a living room with a small kitchenette. It is assisted in the sense that there are CNA's and she has her medication provided for her. The dining hall is very nice. The meals are good and she seems to like them. They are many activities. I think one of the selling points to us is the number of activities on a daily basis.

My sister-in-law passed away in Kingston Residence. It was not a luxurious facility. I stayed with her for like a week there. They provided an air mattress that I inflated in her living room at night. Her apartment had a living room, a little kitchenette, a bedroom and a bathroom with a shower. She also had a walk-in closet in the bedroom. The living room was big enough to have two chairs, a loveseat, and a TV. The staff was really sweet, very nice and very kind. They were also very courteous to provide the assistance we need in any way. My sister-in-law had several nurses attending to her. There were staff nurses but she also had hospice nurses that came in everyday to see her as well and then there was a home health nurse. The staff there would get her laundry everyday and bring them back in the evening. They also would clean her room, etc. The director of nurses was also constantly coming up there. Regarding food, it was not the type that I would normally choose but it probably catered more to older people. It had more fat to it though.

I toured Kingston Residence and it was pretty good for assisted and independent living if you want. It seemed to be clean and well kept. The staff was good. I had a tour guide, her name was Trisha and she showed me the ground and the apartment. She showed me a one bedroom with one living room place and the closet was pretty spacious. It had a refrigerator. She also showed me the dining room. They had activities for the residents.

With three (truly) delicious meals suprervised by a genuine chef, people who carefully but discreetly keep a sharp eye on potential difficulties for the residents, and above all a personal first-name basis caring and actually loving staff that sustains resident's dignity, what's not to love about Kingston Residence of Hickory. My 91 year old mom was charmed and delighted with our overnight visit and stay during Veteran's Day Weekend.
