We went to Brookdale Hickory Northeast. We could see that it was an older facility. I think it could use some updating, but it seemed like a nice place. There's a problem with the showers, like, my mother can't raise her legs very high and you have to raise her legs. I was surprised that a place like that would not have showers where you didn't have to raise your legs to get in. The staff was very nice. It wasn't her job to do the tour, but I thought she did a good job. They had a nice dining room. They looked like a restaurant. They seem to have plenty of activities, like crafts and things. They have all kinds of activities to keep the residents busy if they choose to do that.

Everybody at Brookdale Hickory Northeast seemed to care. The facility was very clean. The reason we didn't pick this one was that it's farther away from where my friend was living at the time, and her family lived closer to the other facility. Everything was very nice. They seem to try to keep it up and make it pleasant. The staff members were very nice. They had a patio, a nice front porch, and a community area. It was an older place.

Brookdale Hickory Northeast would have been our first choice for my mother-in-law had we not gone to the other place. The lady who took us on a tour was great. She was wonderful. They were having lunch when we were there, and it was like a big family. It's very much a family-type atmosphere. It was a nice facility. They had a corner room with windows on both walls, which we knew would appeal to my mother-in-law because she's such an outdoor person. The cook came out to welcome us. She told us how long she had been there, and you could just tell from talking to her and from watching the residents in the cafeteria, it was lively. The dining area looked nice. The rooms were nice. For activities, they have bingo and game nights, and they take them shopping. I looked at their activity calendar, and they have a lot of things going on. There was a group playing some kind of game. We met with the residents, and they were all very nice and welcoming. The facility is a little bit older though.

Brookdale Hickory Northeast was very clean. It didn't smell and everything was in order. I liked the rooms. It had a miniature refrigerator and microwave. Some residents were sitting out in the hall and I got to talk with them. They were so happy and looked so good. They just looked neat, happy, and well cared for. I was talking to them about my brother and one lady said she was a veteran, too, and they said they had more veterans there. The staff was very nice. They came up and spoke to me and talked to me. The grounds were very neat and clean. They have a nice porch with rocking chairs where they can sit outside.

I went to Brookdale Hickory Northeast and talked to the manager, and he gave me a tour. He did tell me a little bit about everything and introduced me to everybody. It was wonderful. The people were so nice and friendly. They welcomed me as soon as I come in the door with open arms and they all came. They wanted to meet me and even the lady that works in the office came out right away and shook my hand, also another guy and the kitchen staff. I told them if I have to go out and eat again, I'm going to come here and eat because they have a nice menu. It's very clean, and it was wonderful. I met a couple of people that lived there. They came out of their rooms and they were very nice. Everything was nice, clean, bright, and decorated. The rooms were very nice. They only have one room left, a small one, and I don't know yet if my mom can go in there or not. I'm waiting to hear back from them because I'd like to have her go in there. They were playing bingo when I was there. They have another room for people that want to do some kind of reading, writing, knitting, or whatever they want to do on their own. They have a place where you can read, sit, and enjoy. They have a van that takes them on outings and to doctors' appointments. They always have something planned. They told me any time I want to, I can come over to eat with them.

I went to Brookdale Hickory Northeast. I liked that there was 24-hour care that I knew was going to be there. The place was clean. I think it had a 99.5 rating. I got to speak with some of the residents, and they said they loved it there. It's gorgeous. It's modern. The grounds were clean, the grounds were nice, and they had walking trails. They had some cases of COVID, and the cafeteria was not open, so they were starving the residents in their room. It was very nice, welcoming, and spacious. They had activities, and they had spiritual activities. They would take the residents out shopping.

We toured Brookdale Hickory Northeast yesterday. The experience was positive. We went in the afternoon, so the residents had already had lunch. There was no one in the dining room, but we saw the dining room. We went by the community room where they were playing bingo. We glanced in and observed that. Then we went down the hall. We could see a couple of the rooms where the residents were still in their rooms. We went into the director's office. He explained the different types of rooms they have, and we went to look at one in particular that is currently available. Personally, I thought this was a perfect one for my mother-in-law. Although it was more than what she wanted to pay, it was close enough to her price range that using some of her savings each month, she could afford it. I was pleased with the number of activities that they offer. All the activities were listed on the top of a board. They were things that she would enjoy participating in. It was positive, and it seemed very clean. I only interacted with Dan the administrator, but he was great. He was very positive, upbeat, answered any questions that we had, and was very personable. He tried to make my mother-in-law very comfortable, and I liked his manner. It appeared very clean.

I had an in-person tour of Brookdale Hickory Northeast. The staff members were very kind to me and very nice. The layout of the facility was nice. It was clean. I looked at the room for two people, and it was smaller. I guess for petite people it would still look OK. We walked down the hall and peeked in at the places where they eat, where they exercise, and where they just sat together as a group and did things together.

The staff at Brookdale Hickory NE are supportive, caring, and helpful. The initial tour was informative and accommodating. I was able to speak with the clinical director on my first visit to see whether my father-in-law's needs were a good fit for the services at Brookdale. As I continued to visit (sometimes an arranged meeting and sometimes impromptu), I was consistently met with smiles and greetings from both the staff and the Residents. I saw first-hand how the staff work together as a team when the finance manager helped in an unrelated matter that took the patience of a Saint. Housekeeping helped with getting a cart for us on move in day and kindly showed me how she had cleaned the room in preparation for my father-in-law's arrival. The med techs and dietary saw to our needs on move in day in addition to all the staff. The Executive Director is approachable and hands on as a team leader. In my conversations with the Residents, I found vibrant personalities who showed interest in welcoming a new member to the family and who confirmed that Brookdale Hickory NE is a good place to live with lots of fun activities. I'm a registered nurse with experience in long term care so I can spot trouble very easily. I don't expect perfection because perfection is not realistic in life. What I do expect is for people to do the best that they can and to treat each other like members of their own family. These expectations are fulfilled at Brookdale Hickory NE.

The common areas of Brookdale Hickory Northeast were a little smaller than the other facility. It just felt a little more closed in. They were a little closer to being done with remodeling. It was larger than the other facility too. It just kind of felt a little more cramped. They have like four entrees and then the sides and things that went with the entrees, so you could pick between four different entrees. They have just a room and a bathroom. They have no kitchenette. They do include cable. The facility was clean. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and took his time answering questions.

Brookdale Hickory Northeast gave me an actual tour. They called me an hour before meeting time. It was very positive and it was impressive. I had a very good impression when I entered the building. The staff members were beautiful and they were nice. I got to see it almost completely. Entirely, it was very good, and it was very welcoming. The living atmosphere is the best. Most of the people there were pretty independent in terms of whatever they allow. I didn't see a lot of people who weren't in control of themselves or displaying mental problems. The dining room is closed down, so whatever they do for the food is strictly for the residents there. They said they have a hot tub in there. They have a full regimen of physical exercise for the people. Obviously, they have physical therapy.

Brookdale Hickory Northeast was extremely clean, bright, and cheerful. The staff was extremely accommodating, answered all of our questions, discussed finances with us, and were very considerate of my mom. I have been to places where they talk either around my mom or to me only, and the staff here made it a point to talk to her as well. If they needed additional information that she wasn't able to supply they would talk to me. They were very considerate of the senior's feelings and dignity. We have toured four communities and this by far is the best fit for her. Because of COVID they don't have formalized activities going on right now, however they do encourage their residents to get out of their rooms, even under the current COVID restrictions. Everybody was masked, I saw people out and about, and I saw people standing in someone's door chatting, so there's social interaction going on, but with the proper distancing. The staff member who gave me the tour was great. The layout is all on one floor, and there's no nursing home type smells going on. It was everything we were looking for.

Brookdale told me a room cost $3,000 when it was really $6,000. It didn’t seem like it was as congenial as other places. They had really beautiful grounds and transportation. The rooms were pretty good and had adequate closets. I was just disappointed with the price.

My brother is in Brookdale Hickory Northeast (formerly Hickory Manor). The activities are good, but the staff needs improvement. The room is very nice but not very clean. The food is not very good. The dining area is very nice. I saw that they had a church choir, someone singing gospel music, and bingo.

The staff at Brookdale Hickory Northeast seemed fine, although I didn’t care too much for the place itself. The doors were not locked, and it seemed like a lot of people were wandering a lot outside, but it was clean, and the rooms looked nice.

Mom would have to share a room with another woman at Brookdale Hickory Northeast, and that was why I did not go with it. I know my mother and her dementia. It would not be the right environment for her. They had a very good administrative manager. He was really nice. It was a good facility, but it was just not the one I wanted.

I liked Hickory Manor (Brookdale Hickory Northeast). It was very nice. It was more laid back and more quiet; it was a place I thought my mama would be more comfortable in. They were doing some games and different things when I was there. Their dining room was nice, but it was a little bit further out for me and a little bit more expensive.

The staff is great; the environment is great. The only thing I don’t like about Hickory Manor is if my mother rings her call bell, they charge her. I haven’t had the chance to talk to them about this yet. I just found out in the last bill she had extra charges for using the call bell. One time she couldn’t get her sheet onto the other side of the bed, so she asked somebody to help her, and it's ridiculous to charge for that. What are they there for? I’m already paying extra for them to give her drugs, to give out medication. All the assisted living is like that. But she loves the food, and she’s getting more and more involved in activities. There’s always something going on, and that has made her really happy. They know every resident by name. They’re real good at cleaning and upkeeping.

This facility cares nothing about their residents. They are under staffed and the upper management thinks it's everyone else's problem because they can't get anyone to work there. For months they've talked about how they don't have a nurse, but no one knows what happened to their nurse, just that she's "on leave." They kick people out for no reason, disregard the feelings and the needs of their patients. If you're not independent (which is not what ALF is) then they look down on you there. Staff appear to be inconvenienced when a resident needs assistance. Staff can be seen in their garden smoking cigarettes with residents, which is disgusting and unprofessional. Staff have their shirt tails out, look unkempt, and look as if there are no policies available at Hickory Manor about dress code or appearance. Upper Management needs to find another job, as one in particular is establishing quite the reputation in the community for being difficult to work with, difficult to consult with and families have stated she is argumentative with them over valid concerns. Hickory Manor is awful!! They'll persuade you that they're wonderful, but they truly do not care about their patients, only their money. Stay away and find somewhere else!

One of the things about this facility that struck me the most was the fact that staff had a deeply caring attitude towards the residence. They were consistently not only caring for residents in any way they needed but incredible concerned the residents maintain as much dignity and independent as possible. This can take tremors patience to allow an elderly person to struggle to do something you could easily help them with but many times for many residents this is incredible important for dignity. Contrastingly there were a few residents who wanted to be pampered and didn't want to struggle with menial tasks. These residents were also accommodated. They are always speaking about personalized care plans. Well this facility takes those personalized care plans seriously. Its not just a medical plan its actually treating each person as individual human who has certain preferences, just like you would a member of your family. The only fault I could find in the place was there was a lack of variety in the floor plans of the patient rooms and the food was only good not excellent.
