We chose Blakey Hall for my mother-in-law. Her room there was clean and has plenty of room. The dining area was nice and seems to serve good food. The staff is very helpful, nice and professional. The value for the money is as good as the rest of them, they're all costly anyway so it's okay. The place is well-kept and clean.

I came by for a tour for my family member and was appalled by how the staff or shall I say lack of staff they had and for the amount of money they expect people to pay you should not be told by staff member and current residents that they are ALWAYS “short staffed” and working with no one on the floor. This’s is absolutely discusting, the way they treat those poor people!

My Mom lived here for several years. This was the perfect place for her,as she was very independent and yet it still allowed her to feel safe and secure. She made some wonderful friends here, and enjoyed the daily socializing at meals. ( although the food could improve a bit,LOL!) . The Activity Director really strives to have a variety of activities available, and I think the residents have a lot of fun too! Overall, the staff was very kind, and responded quickly to requests. We would definitely recommend this to older adults looking for a nice place to live that they can also afford!

My wife is a resident at the Cottage at Blakey Hall, a building housing only sixteen people with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias. She has been there for almost four years and gets excellent care from staff who feed and bathe her as well as care for her personal needs as she can no longer care for herself. The staff listens to family member's concerns and is very attentive to all of the resident's needs.

I think they had a lot of interaction among their residents at Blakey Hall. They also had sofas, chairs, and tables in the hallways where people can sit and talk. They had a friendly atmosphere. The people were very nice and very helpful. The dining setup looked nice. They had restaurant style dining where you order from a menu.

Their staff are rude to the residents, the food they service is horrible. The staff do not wash their hand as they go from room to room to pass out meds. The staff wear their street clothes and are unprofessional.

As one of the co-Executive Directors of Blakey Hall, I was both thankful and sorry to read Ellderly’s review from April 2, 2015 on their experience at Blakey Hall. Thankful in that we can all benefit from constructive criticism, but sorry that they had such a poor experience. Our mission statement reads that we strive “to provide the best quality of life possible for our residents in a safe, caring and home like setting.” During our 16 years of operation, we have continued to promote the dignity, independence and privacy of our residents who are entrusted to our care. Our med techs are instructed to either sanitize their hands or use new gloves after dispensing medications to each resident. Although our food has always been good (several of the leadership team and staff members eat with the residents daily, some even paying for that opportunity), we have recently hired a new dietary director and an experienced full-time cook who are working to bring the quality of the meals even higher. Although our residential care staff members do wear nursing uniforms, we don’t require this of either our housekeeping or maintenance staffs as we want to create a more home-like setting and welcoming and friendly environment.
I don’t know why Ellderly had the poor experience s/he did, but I would like to invite her/him back to Blakey Hall. I hope another experience will help change their opinion of our facility and our staff.

We will be moving to the Hamlet at Blakey. It is an assisted living with 52 duplex apartments attached to it, and it met all the needs that we are looking for; that is why we chose it. It does not also require us to pay money upfront. They have a game room, and they also have an exercise room. Overall, my experience has been good.

We were really impressed with Blakey Hall. It was extremely nice. It had a more homey atmosphere. The rooms were great, and they are beautiful. The staff seemed very friendly. They have three or four things, I think, going on Monday through Friday every week, like bingo, music, singing. They also do things on holidays. It didnÕt seem to be a place for elderly people. It's much more enjoyable, more friendly, and more homey.

I haven't moved in to The Hamlet yet but I already made a deposit. There are a lot of options there, you can have your own garage so, I'm putting my work stuff in it. Each apartment has two bedrooms, two baths, complete dining and kitchen facilities, screened porch and your own place to dig in your garden. It's associated very closely with the Elon University so there are classes and things that we can do there. It's just what I was looking for and the prices are reasonable than anywhere else I've found. It's a place you would belong and feel comfortable.

Blakey Hall is like nothing I have every seen before in an assisted living facility. It is literally a community. It is not a building but an actual community of little apartments with security and 24 hour medical response. Even though it sits on a modest 14 acres, this place is perfect. It even has a horse farm nearby that the guests visit from time to time. What sets this place apart is that there is a section for smaller children also in a different section of the building or part of the area rather. It is a very unique area. The grounds are very well kept and the inside is even better. The staff seems to enjoy their job and the patients seem to get along with each other with the greatest of ease. This facility definitely deserves a lot of respect of dignity from a former Army medic.
