I was at Golden Gate for 3 1/2 months for rehab for arthritic knees Both the OT and PT staffs were caring, understanding and hard working I would especially like to mention my PT Vicky R. and my OT Milana K. They formulated a collaborative plan of care and each day diligently carried it forward, even when I felt like giving up! I would also like to mention that the entire staff on the second floor were kind and caring and integrated themselves into the plan of care The RNs and CNAs were excellent Every staff member including the transporters Joey, Roman, Miriam and Ben were cheerful and always encouraging me. Thank you Diane P. and Dr Ripoll for admitting me to your facility when every other nursing home on Staten Island would not.

Golden Gate Rehabilitation & Health Care Center was a nursing home, and it looked more for sick people than just memory-impaired people. The woman I toured with was kind, caring, helpful, and informative. It just looks a little dated. It didn't look dirty, but it could use some modernization. It's near to church and school.

Right now, my aunt is at Golden Gate Rehab. We had visitation rights just downstairs, but yesterday was the first day I was able to go up in her room. The rooms are rundown, dirty, and dingy. She didn't have a shower in her room, and there was a toilet between her room and another room shared. All she had was the sink. There's nowhere to put anything. It's awful. The people on her floor are not really coherent. She's aware of everything, and she stays in her room because she has no one to talk to. Everybody's up there screaming, yelling, and crying; it's just awful. She is aware of everybody and everything, but she is delusional. She thinks that people are trying to kill her. I'm so mentally drained after being there after that. I just went out in my car and sobbed my eyes out. She hasn't been showered. Her hair is so greasy. There's no shower in the room. It is down in the hall somewhere, and she hasn't gotten one yet. The staff is very nice. They're wonderful. The lady bringing in the meal was really friendly. The people at the desk and my aunt's social worker are wonderful. There's just so much they could do, but they can't change the building. The building is horrible. The staff members are good. My aunt likes to color, so they bring her things to color and stuff; they are trying. The place is not clean at all. The lobby and elevators always seem OK. Once you get upstairs, my aunt's room was disgusting. There was stuff smeared on the walls and on the door. There was a big water stain up on the ceiling. It just was awful and very gloomy. There were old curtains hanging in the window. It was just awful. There was nothing there to make her feel comfortable, and I feel like a person in her situation should have familiar things around her.

I visited the facility - Resident's bath rm and their rooms are smell. Administration should order Porters to clean these 2 area once a wk. I also notice -- some residents' nail are too long. Do they set schedule to trim their nail beside color women's nail??

I am writing today to state i find it inconceivable how on weekends the facility functions on a "skeleton crew" and on the second floor the nurse's station is always empty, there are only two aides for the entire floor and calls for assistance by residents can go unanswered and ignored for up to one hour! They seem always on "break" and the floor is a virtual ghost town after 5pm. This is outrageous....do people not get sick, need assistance, have emergencies, etc. on Saturday and Sunday, too ?

My mother is a patient in Golden Gate and my sister's and I have been so worried & disappointed lately with how the nurses do not address to our mother's constant Stage 2 ulceration. The aides are not caring nor attentive to the point they leave my mother sit in her fecal and urine for long periods of time or to move her body from position resulting in this horrible medical condition. Some of the aides have unpleasant attitudes when asked for help. The aides are not to be found because most of them take breaks at the same time together. We are very concern now with our mother's reoccurring Stage 2 ulcerations and would like for her to be examined thoroughly & hospitalized until this matter is treated correctly. I feel that there has to be more medical team work to prevent this neglection. I myself know of ulcerations from my experience working in the medical field and they have to be addressed every 2 hours by checking if the patient is soiled and constant body positioning for better circulation. Our mother's hair is always greasy and told she has been bathe however it smells bad. I hope this message will help for this matter to be addressed by Golden Gate Nursing Home in Staten Island, NY for the care of our loving mother.

This is an honest view about one night I took my dad and I have to move him out the next day , This place is really stinks as i was surprised by the derbies and the filth behind my dad bed , no just the bed but the dresser ,the light fixture that had tons of dirt on it . I am in shock from the amount of dirt all over the place and lack of employee to do any thing 4 you , i you hate any one have him/her spend the night there.

I brought my grandmother here and she seems happy. Staff is courteous and help with any questions I might have. Their activities seem to keep everybody active and happy as well.

I chose the Golden Gate for my mother because of the recreation that they have available for her.The rooms are OK. What I do not like is sometimes they are understaffed. The food is OK. They have activities like bingo and zumba. I would recommend them for the recreation that they have.

if you could click no stars i would. the adminstrative staff is awful. the staff will just pass you on to the next person over and over and over again. you never get any answers to your concerns or questions. they are not highly skilled with dealing with conflict. the front desk is empty for hours if you visit after the day shift goes home. the residents, if suffering from dementia are not treated well. four residents share one bathroom. the food is awful. the majority of the aides seem good, but the nurses do not seem to be skilled. they are pleasant but once i found some of my moms pills on the floor under the bed. once i saw them give her the wrong pills. the administration, the social workers, and the majority of the staff is indifferent, not very friendly and from what i see this is just a buisness to them. the family members get no support; questions are never answered; you want to pull your hair out if you have to speak to anyone in the administration. it is a terrible, terrible, place. the activites are so ridiculous. the intercom blares thru the patient room everytime they make an announcement. you cannot bring "real" food into the dining area due to religious restrictions. the list of negatives is endless. i had the highest hopes so please view this as fair. if you have someone you love, and they have issues DO NOT PLACE THEM IN THIS FACILITY.
