I'm interested in Eger Harbor House, but they need Medicaid. Without Medicaid, they won't accept my father. It was well maintained. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Everything was great in there. Everything was kept clean and in its place. All the other residents look like they're very well taken care of. I have no complaints. The staff was friendly. They help with the laundry, dressing (if they need help with dressing), and with medication. They have a recreation center. They do cleaning of the room or housekeeping, and they provide their meals. There's an elevator and there's air-conditioning. They have gardens and a seating area that has a few benches, where they can go outside, just sit down, catch air, speak with one another, and just look around.

As far as I can tell the requirements for admission to this facility are completely arbitrary. I brought a family member for an interview and while I saw residents in much worse condition my family member was not accepted. They could not get care elsewhere because they were "High Functioning". But they were High Functioning only because they were receiving temporary care, that is until there savings soon runs out !! "The Catch 22"

Eger Harbor House is absolutely gorgeous, it is like a hotel. However, it is so difficult to get someone on the phone. Sometimes, I have to call them a few times when I was trying to set up interviews for my father to go there. Finally when we got the interview, nobody's answering the door and I left many messages. We met with the administrator and the nurse and they finally said they are not going to take him because he refuses to use any kind of device to help him walk. I said he doesn't need it. There could have been other reasons, maybe because I am very outspoken and maybe they just didn't like it.The place itself is beautiful, but I would not recommend the staff, they declined my father and I was not happy with them.

My mom is staying at Eger Harbor House. The food is awful. There's been theft in the rooms. There is very little recourse that a resident has with the theft. It's basically he said she said kind of thing. There's no recourse, there's no reimbursement, there's no cameras. There are people that require a high level of care that are there and should not be there. People that appear to me that are suffering some sort of dementia, mental retardation or something that, in with the regular mix of elder folks which to me is completely unfair. The place is clean. There are no bugs or any kind of vermin. The staff is responsive if family gets involved, with insurance probably, very similar to other facilities. There are absolutely no activities except for bingo and trips to Atlantic City. If you have no money and on Medicaid, what good is going to Atlantic City? That's ridiculous. There's nothing to do. It's bingo, bingo, bingo all the time. They should improve on food, facilities and have a more rigorous screening process for the residents. And to have recourse on the theft that goes on. It's a beautiful neighborhood and the location is pretty. They do provide counseling if a resident feels depressed, there's a social worker available. They give medication on time and I really don't have any problem with medication. They have call buttons or strings in all the rooms. If the residents are injured, they can access that.
