The people who work at this place are so nice and the rehab team is fantastic! My grandma got one on one attention during her therapy. The food is hit or miss but they have tons of stuff to do for activities. Most of the nurses are pretty nice too.

My godmother has bad arthritis and had difficulty walking. She was at Sprain Brook for a month after being discharged from the hospital where she was being treated for knee pain. Rather than getting her back on her feet, they had her doped up on Tramadol to the point that she was nearly incoherent. In the 30 days she was there , she lost 11 lbs, from 151 to 140. When she was discharged and sent to the hospital complaining of chest pains, she had pneumonia. Prior to being re-hospitalized, the staff at Sprain Brook were planning on keeping her another month. Communication with the staff was horrible. They moved her without informing us; we didn’t know where she was for 3 days. They gave her an opioid without consulting us. And they did nothing to improve her condition. On the contrary, they made her condition worse. She was doped up; she lost 11 lbs; and she contracted pneumonia, probably as result of bed-ridden and neglected during her monthlong stay. Postscript: after 2nd hospitalization and treatment for pneumonia, we were able to get my godmother into a good facility where she can now walk with a walker and return home.

PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE HERE! MY DAD WAS DEAD IN 3 WEEKS. STAFF NEVER TOLD ME HE WAS ON OXYGEN, HE WAS HEALTHY WHEN HE ENTERED HERE JUST HAD DEMINTA THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A TEMPORARY STAY UNTIL I COULD MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO GET DAD TO FLORIDA TO LIVE WITH ME. THE STAFF IS TERRIBLE AND RUDE, I COULD NEVER GET THROUGH ON THE PHONE. MY DAD PASSED JAN 8 AT LAWERENCE HOSPITAL. THIS PLACE IS SO INCOMPETENT THAT WHEN MY DAD WAS ON HIS DEATHBED DYING OF COVID SOME NURSE CALLED ME TO REPIRT MY DADS COVID TEST WAS NEGATIVE! UNBELIEVABLE! IM DEVASTATED AND IT SURE WAS A TEMPORARY VISIT TO SPRAIN BROOK. NEVER DID GET TO SEE MY DAD GET TO FLORIDA, BUT I DID GET TO SEE HIS ZOOM FUNERAL. THANK YOU TO THE HORRIBLE STAFF AND ADMINISTRATION AT SPRAIN BROOK. P. S. THERE ARE OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS TO BACK UP MINE

This is the worse place. Don't put your loved ones here. The nurses don't care, they are rude and had attitude if I asked questions. They would say be back in a minute but they never come back. never seen doctor. Informed nurse mom coughing all I got was ok I'll be right back but she never comes back. Mom ended up in hospital because of lack of care

They have an excellent activities program with lots of chances for patients to interact with other people. Not just bingo but fun stuff like zumba and there was lots of music. They do bbq's too and they didn't charge me to have a burger with my friend. They took good care of her and she really liked it there.

I am so surprised at how awful the communication is here. We have a relative who was brought to the hospital as unwilling and unsafe. The hospital was wonderful however we chose Sprain Brook as we thought it was good and so far the experience has been absolutely horrible. We have yet to speak to a doctor or nurse practitioner and the social workers are rude beyond and won’t speak. Our relative was found sitting in her own urine for days, unable to eat; drink; go the the bathroom and this facility seems to think she is of sound mind and it’s not necessary to discuss with anyone . I would NEVER have picked this facility if I knew how indifferent the staff is. I have no idea what will happen to our relative and zero confidence in this facility . Beware, the service is awful.

I was appalled at the treatment my 91 year old mother was given at this facility. Most of the time she was just totally ignored. With a few exceptions, the aids were very unfriendly. One day my mom called for water three times, but had to wait 16 hours before her pitcher was brought back to her. The food would turn your stomach, and looked so unappetizing that I would not even feed it to my dog. I am happy to say this was only a temporary stay for my mom after being hospitalized. My mother is now in a lovely assisted living facility, and being treated with dignity physically, mentally and spiritually. Never again will my mother see the inside of such a horrible place.

There use to be one aide to four or five residents/patients now there is one aide to almost ten at a time. They are clearly under staffed and the aides work really hard while the administrators do absolutely nothing. Poor management has hindered patient care. The dept of health should do a surprise visit. I am sure if they did, the medicare rating would go down to being a one star facility not a five star as it is listed presently.

Sprain Brook Manor was a very homey kind of place in a beautiful area. It is 17 acres of property, but it’s very convenient to the highway. The highway is right next door, but you can’t see the place from the highway, so it’s nice. It’s a rehab center, dementia center, and a live in center. There are four separate floors. My husband is in the rehab center. It’s one building; it has a lovely patio in the back, and people can eat out around the trees. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They have several physicians on staff there and aides. He has got very good care there, and the reason I picked it was because it has an excellent physical therapy department; that’s what he needed at the time he was there. They have someone who comes to entertain every night, playing guitar, and singing. They have bingo at night. Once a month, they have a brunch, and everyone is invited; family. They have entertainers, and they bring people in to entertain every night after dinner in what they call the front room, which also has a very large plasma T.V., and they just had a senior prom. They do have various activities like that on Independence Day; they have a big celebration. I think they really try to make it as personal as possible. There’s nothing pretentious or fuzzy about the place at all. But the food leaves something to be desired.

The facility was decent. I remember the lobby being dirty and smelling like a funeral home which put me off but when I saw the rest of the building I was not as upset. My grandfather enjoyed most of his stay there, other than the unruly roommate he was given (which many people in the home agreed that his roommate should have been in his own room). The nursing staff was for the most part very friendly and helpful although there was one occasion where the nurse completely ignored my grandfather when he told them he needed his colostomy bag changed and it began to leak. He was able to participate in daily activities and Catholic mass/receive communion, which means a lot to him so that was great. One thing I really did not like was the fact that his case was handled by a social worker, not a doctor, and the social worker decided when he was fit to go home. I found this to be ridiculous and it must have had something to do with money and insurance.

My Mom was recently a patient in Sprain Brook Manors' short term rehab & I must say that I was extremely pleased. The P.T. & O.T. she received was given by Dawn & her very caring group therapists. They work tirelessly. Everyone that our family came in contact with was so personable, you felt so at ease. Joni at the desk couldn't be more helpful and it seems she's ALWAYS there. Recreation time with Helen & her staff is very interesting, book clubs and more. Just check the calendar for all the events Helen has planned. Amy Mandizibal and her nursing staff are very competent, caring people. You get to know your Nurses & CNA's well. The location is perfect from anywhere, right off Central Ave. or the Sprain Pkwy. Lastly, the food is extremely edible, we really couldn't complain, and they offer guest trays. Sprain Brook Manor's food is definitely better than she'd had in the hospital. So, if you're deciding where to go for yourself or family member, Sprain Brook Manor is the place to go. It isn't home, but it comes close.

I have found the staff at Sprain Brook Manor very warm and caring. I was hesitant to have my father stay here for rehab due to the low rating, but it was close to me and I figured it would only be temporary. I was pleasantly surprised. The recreation activities were wonderful, and the rehab staff got him up and moving. It was a pleasure.
