I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The rooms are renovated at the subacute rehab. That’s the best thing I can say about it. The food is terrible. Almost No activities for patients. Most of the staff is unqualified to work there. A few of the therapists were good, though. The staff doesn’t have enough time to be patient with the inmates. I say inmates, because what little independence they have left is taken from them. You will be ignored when commenting what your loved one was capable of before entering their facility. My relative had bloodied skin tears on their arms that was explained away by rolling the patient in bed. This never happened with 24/7 care in my home. My relative also had bruising up and down both arms while staying in sub acute rehab. And if one complains or wishes to move their relative to another facility, the staff will move said patient to the nursing home section without conferring with you first. And you most likely won’t find out until it’s too late that once a patient is moved to memory care and/or palliative care, said patient is undersirable to other nursing homes. Be aware that once patients are moved to memory care, they are given antidepressants. The bruising on my relatives’ arms reappeared when I saw the same nurse in the memory care unit. I know this place is understaffed, but I find it hard to have compassion for staff members who are fine with hearing a patient cry out in pain from either being placed in their wheelchair in front of a very cold air conditioner near the nurses station or having to wait at least 30 minutes for help with stomach cramps. Telling us you will get help, but instead your shift ended and went home. Really? This place can do a lot better for their patients. Being a patient in the general population seems to be fine. Those are the lucky ones.

The rehab/subacute section of Golden Hill is for very incapacitated people. If you're at all motivated to get up and get better, look elsewhere. They are looking to keep you in bed to decrease their liability and extend your stay. They also expect patients to stay in their rooms all day waiting for OT/PT and showers - they refuse to give even an approximate time. For example, my friend was told to expect a shower once a week any time between 3 and 11pm! My friend was also not given any orientation, such as time of meals, where the dining room was or that they locked the doors at 8pm or where the emergency intercom was if you DO get locked out. He got locked out, could not reach anyone by phone and had to call the police to get back in. They also made some medication and other errors. Some people seem nice, but the facility's main concerns really is liability. Understaffed, like everywhere else.

I visited this facility

Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was very clean, but it was institutional looking. There was no outdoor area, but there were a few hard benches in front. It's enormous and had this very dark brick. When you go inside, it was very modern with very high ceilings. It's inviting. It was well-kept and the woman that met me was very professional and caring. I was impressed with the staff. She was very accommodating, very informed, and very, very polite.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Nurses and nurses AIDS that serve the rehab unit are terribly understaffed. The coffee cups are always dirty. It looks like a stain but if you take your finger you can wipe it clean. The food is horrible, I mean really bad. I received silverware that still had food on them like big clubs of food. The nurse's aide used my personal toiletries and hairbrush. There is not many activities for the rehab.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

There are several good staff members and several are outstanding and there are others who have no business in this line of work. Recently I found my darling friend with wet feet in soaking wet socks in the winter. Now they are treating a severe full body rash with calamine lotion, It would seem that this facility is severely lacking in sufficient staff or competent medical care to care for the volume of clients. I know she was placed here to be safe and in the almost year she has been a resident she is Deteriorating. She is no longer walking as there was no PT and she is miserable.

Don't know where to start! I guess with good stuff first! Under the new ownership the rehab side got a major overhaul and looks really nice and is kept very clean! The nurses are very good and the rehab staff such as speech therapy and physical therapy are amazing and myself and family member like them a lot! Now for the nightmare part which is dealing with nurse manager and case workers at the facility! The nurse case manager is one of the most disrespectful and unprofessional nurses I've ever had contact with ( I work in the healthcare field)! She has repeatedly verbally disrespected one of my family members and myself! If you don't do what she wants she gets even worse! They don't like to be challenged! If you have private insurance they just keep telling you that it's going to expire and then it seems like they want to go after your family's assets! Unfortunatly healthcare is money making business and now that facility is a for profit business I feel like that's how the family and pt is treated! I'm personally disgusted on how they treated one of my family members during the care review meetings! They also make false alogations and divert you away from things to get what they want! It sucks because it's an amazing place for rehab and good care the management is something I hope I never have to deal with ever again!

The staff at Golden Hill worked very hard. It’s clean, and it was good. It’s a very big facility, and I would recommend it.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I am giving this facility a 4-star rating because it was obvious that the staff cared about the residents. They did their best to ensure that the residents were comfortable and happy. However, I was disheartened to see how impersonal the facility itself seemed to be. It was a county-run facility, and as such it was more along the lines of a hospital ward visually. The food did not look appetizing and the rooms were rather bland. As I stated before, it was obvious that the staff cared about the residents, but as it is with most health care facilities, they were a bit understaffed. It seemed that while basic needs were met, and as much attention was given as possible, some of the residents suffered from a lack of emotional care. I don't feel this lack was intentional of course, and in a perfect world every patient would receive as much personal attention as they needed.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I have personally volunteered at this facility as a young high school student (9th or 10th grade). The staff is extremely friendly and outgoing. They make the place seem more like a family home rather than an assisted living facility. The facilities themselves are quite nice too. The place is always kept very clean and tidy. As far as the community, they try to group together the most similar and compatible patients together to maximize the experience for everyone in the building. The floors are arranged by different types of patients with varying levels of care needed for each one. My great grandmother was there for about 4 years or so and she has been happy living there and always had good things to say about the staff and the people around her. She has had a couple roommates, al of which she got along very well with. I personally trust this facility because of their professionalism as well as their friendliness.
