This place is a perfect fit for our family. My uncle needs so much care and he loves it there. The staff is so kind to him and us when we visit. It was a smooth transition into his new home and we couldn’t be happier. His room is clean, he is clean, and he loves the food. We were so worried and now we are reassured that Tge homestead in Kew gardens is taking good care of him. Thank you to Steven and his wonderful staff they are truly God sent

We chose The New Homestead Retirement Residence for Mom because it was a little bit more convenient for me, and it was also more reasonable in price. The building is pretty decent. The room my mother got is OK. I've only been here half a day, but the staff I've met have been pretty friendly. We just had one meal and it seemed OK. It's served on paper plates, which I'm not too thrilled with. They have quite a few activities, like right now, they're doing some kind of a game, and then before they had music and yesterday I saw them having a bingo game. They have a salon but you have to pay for that. They have a laundry room, which is good. You can wash your own laundry. There's a library. I'm not too familiar with what goes in here yet. It turns out to be a little bit more expensive than I wanted because I had to change her room to a bigger room. The original room was too small, so it costs more money.

My family and I were in a pinch when my sister was sent home from the hospital before she was ready to be released. Mr. Steven and his staff were very sympathetic to our unique challenge and accepted our sister into The New Homestead. Even though she was a challenging case, the staff and administrators raised to the occasion, made her feel at home and took care of her for the month. We (my family will be forever grateful) Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you, Mr. Steven, Jamila, and all of your staff... Blessings to each of you always

This facility should be closed. Health and safety issues are neglected. I observed black mold on the ceiling of my family member’s room and evidence of long term roof leaks. The bathroom was in poor condition. During a visit to the facility a resident urinated on the elevator door with a response from staff. One of the elevators had an outdated safety certificate. Hot water throughout the facility had failed. I was informed that the NY Department of Health visits the facility in response to complaints and management makes temporary repairs. There are many wonderful staff who remain there to take care of the residents they love.

The New Homestead is a very beautiful place and the rooms are beautiful. But the man there kind of lied to me, he told me they take dogs. I told him my daughter has to go to some kind of a training school to teach it how to act around people. He told me they had a training school so I asked for the school phone number. He never was able to provide it, and then he asked me why I would want to take the dog there if he had a bad disposition, so he lied to me. He also told me that they actually go to people's rooms, in between the seasons, and they take the air-conditioning out of the window and then return them in the spring. I said, I need my air-conditioning all year round and they take them out? I don't care for that too much. It was a beautiful room though. I'd give them a zero because he didn't tell me the truth. I imagine once I got there, he would force me in the only way he can, to get rid of the dog. And the dog was something that I wanted to keep for as long as I could. The staff was fine though. They had a beauty parlor, well it's really not a beauty parlor since it just had one seat. They had a very small room for physical therapy too, but I don't even know if you could sit more people in that room but one.

Homestead (The New Homestead Retirement Residence) is both independent and assisted living. I've been working with Steve and he's been absolutely wonderful. The place is amazing and the room we saw was perfect. The activities director was keeping people active and the residents were playing the piano. Everyone has been very pleasant. I worked with Jamila who's amazing, the front desk is amazing, and the place is very secure since you have to be buzzed in and out. The place was clean. It's more one-on-one since there are only 105 rooms in the place. It seems that as residents leave, they update the rooms. The dining room was very orderly and organized.

Ill start of by saying the neighborhood is wondeful. I travel to new york once sometimes twice a year to visit my aunt. The facility is well maintained. Very home like environment. The aids and med techs are very respectful, professional and helpful. The Administrator changed from my last visit but he seems to be a good fit. Always walks around during meal times, talking to residents, making sure they get what they ask for. Im very fond of the front desk, very welcoming staff. Overall very good place, and most importantly quality of care is good.

My mother is at the New Homestead, the place is beautiful and is a home like environment!!! It was redone recently and well maintained. Everyone is so nice to my mother, and whenever I visit they are very welcoming. My mother told me that she loves the food, and there is always different options during meal times. MY mother needs help with showering and getting dressed, the staff at the homestead work around her schedule that whenever she is ready to shower they are there to help her. All staff at the homestead are amazing!! they are patient, and respectful to my mother!! I've seen plenty a time how the staff handled certain situations that came up, they dealt with it in a real caring and professional way. They also have very responsible med techs who take care of my mothers medications, I feel very good about it. They have excellent recreation activities, my mother is always busy, even when I call her she asks me to call her back because they either have some kind of entertainment, or game etc!! The management team is amazing, they work with us together, they encourage us to ask for whatever we need, and they make sure to take care of it immediately! They have a wonderful administrator and case manager! I was very impressed that the administrator is in the dining room during all meals, he walks around and makes sure everyone has what they want, and chats with all the residence. The operator is also very involved, he was the one that gave us the tour of the facility, he kept his word as to our agreements, and was very upfront about everything. Overall its a very pleasant, warm facility, in a great location, very affordable!! I recommend it to anyone looking for a facility for their loved ones!!

I most say how impressed I was when I first walked in. The place looked clean, and smelled good. unlike other facilities that have a urine smell. The residence all looked well taken care off. My cousin looked great and told me how happy she is there!

While my father was in the hospital for two months, I paid for his room at The New Homestead. During this time, every time I stopped by his room to pick something up for him, there were staff members using it as their lunch break room. I found nylon stockings in the drawer and food in the clothes closet which explains the roaches in the closet. There were problems before this: staff entered the room in the middle of the night to sort laundry while having loud conversation. This was very disturbing and disorienting to my father who became confused about whether it was day or night. Despite my attempts to stop this, it continued. The owner is way more interested in every last penny he can get from residents than in their well being. If my father hadn't died in the hospital, I would have found another place for him to live.

I don't even want to give this establishment 1 star, but they give you no option to leave ZERO stars. I was looking to get my Father into this assisted living facility because he has Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis on 24 hour oxygen and currently lives on a fourth floor walk up. He can no longer manage those stairs, and is currently using a motorized scooter to get around. My Wife and I met the owner, Stephen, who told us anything we wanted was possible, nothing was a problem. So we brought my Father there in a wheelchair and Stephen asked numerous times if he could walk with a walker, which we told him no. My Father asked him outright if his scooter was allowed in the facility and Stephen replied "Yes, that's no problem". The room he showed up had a lot of twists and turns to get into, and he assured us that he would work hard to find a room that goes straight in for easy access with the scooter. Asked us to give him a couple of days and handed us the medical forms needed to be accepted. A couple of days later, I had left a message for him and so did my Father, three days later, he called my Father back and asked AGAIN if he could walk with a walker and how much his income was, making a comment about his income being high. My Father again told him, he could NOT walk with a walker. Stephen said he would get back to my Father in a few days. A week later, my Father was taken to the hospital for an infection in his lungs, which is being treated. Now we are scrambling to get in touch with Stephen to get the room ASAP, so that straight from the hospital my Father wouldn't have to get up the fourth floor walk up again. I left a message for him at the office, two messages on his cell phone and went to the facility to speak with him. He was not there and didn't return any of my messages within the past two days. My Wife and I, go there again and speak a man named Jacob, who tries to call Stephen. Stephen tells him to tell us, he will call us when a room is available, but would not return any of our calls. We find out later in the day, that assisted living facilities cannot by LAW take a resident who cannot walk on their own. Electric scooter or wheelchairs are NOT allowed. Had Stephen told us this three weeks ago, we would not have wasted so much time and energy. I personally, do not know this information as this is the first time I am going through this situation. I believe that Stephen was VERY UNPROFFESSIONAL and downright rude for not being honest from the beginning. Wasting our time at such a delicate and stressful moment in our lives. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND anyone even attempt to put their loved ones in a place where the owner does not care about people.

Homestead Home should be shutdown. The building is very old, and he has not put any money into the building at all. The people looked like zombies. I didn’t even stay to eat. I was so turned away by the lack of closet space, and the bathroom was horrible. I saw some people waiting to go in to eat, and they all looked like they were zombies. To get to the dining room, you have to walk four or five steps or on a ramp; elderly people can’t do either. Everything was old, dirty, and disgusting. The door should have been replaced. He showed me four rooms, and they were all disgusting. The only good about that place is they seemed to have a medical room with a nurse on staff.

New Homestead Home for Adults was terrible; it looked like a nursing home, and it smelled. The room stunk, and there's no little refrigerator. It was much cheaper but really bad. The staff was nice, and they try to help.

(WARNING) Not a place if your loved one has dementia!!!! My Father was not properly taken care of. His first room mate urinated on the floor in the room and on my Father. Had to file a complaint with the city!!! Then they kept him over medicated. I used the residents bathroom by the cafeteria the walls covered with smered feces disgusting!! I have many pictures of my Father alone sleeping no one was there to watch him. I also have a picture of a man with a towel stuffed in his mouth sitting in the common room. Why I kept my Father here was lack of funds and he refused to leave,

My aunt is at New Homestead Residence. The place has a very nice surrounding area. The room she has is very spacious, well furnished and is very well attended to. They check upon her periodically. They also provide meals three times a day with two snacks. They have lots of activities like bingo. They also have live entertainment that comes in regularly. They medical staff available and doctors twice a week. Medications are dispensed on a daily basis and monitored.

We placed my mom in New Homestead. We chose it because of its location and price. The staff is upbeat. The rooms are more than adequate. Every morning they have yoga. They have some kinds of games. Sometimes they have singers or musicians come to perform for them. It is a nice mix. There seems to be a good friendly group. So, I like it.

My Mom was a resident for about 5 years. The care was without doubt the best I have ever seen. No matter what Mom wanted or needed their staff was always there to help. There was a lot of hand holding and Mom was always comfortable. Anytime we went to visit, there was always smiles on the faces of the staff and residents. Mom was always involved in the activities, she even learned how to use a computer at age 90 during their computer class. Food was great and they even used one of Mom's recipe's. You can't ask for anything better.
