We are staying in Lions Gate. We're in their independent living facility. There is also an assisted living facility here. It is a continuing care facility. The environment, accommodation, and the services of the staff are wonderful. My husband and I are very happy here.

4 tries to get a prospective patient into rehab from both a hospital sending paperwork and myself calling. No reply from Lions Gate Very unprofessional The receptionist answering the phone. Using foul language and extremely rude. After complaining to the Director of Marketing , he stated they are having problems with the receptionist and she has been an ongoing issue. Finally get a scheduled visit which then lead to call from the coordinator cancelling a visit due to child care. I was told that I would get a call the following day to confirm an earlier time I am still waiting for that return call. Extremely unprofessional I would not recommend this facility. I can only imagine the level of care for the residents!! Horrible All other site visits to other facilities have been excellent

My 96 year old friend who lived independently at Lionsgate, was moved to the 'rehab' area. She bought into a large unit when Lionsgate 1st opened...she wanted a space for a caregiver to stay with her when the time came. She had 'a' setback when she was moved to a 'new' temporary space because water damage severely damaged her living space and it was unliveable. In that simple move...my friend started falling apart. When I appeared to visit her...the front desk could not even find her in the building! As though she didn't even live there! My friend went to the rehab area...there she just declined and I say, 'oops, they facilitated her decline' and my friend said to me..."Take me home." Her desire was to die in her bed in her own space and not among a staff whose best support was to place rubber mats next to her bed so when she got up to go to the bathroom...I had no power to speak for her. I was only a friend. Right now, my very astute 91 yr old mother in law needs a place. She eliminated Lionsgate based on negative recommendations at multiple sites. Independent living might be wonderful...but when you need more care...that care is very lacking. It was so sad to know my friend was not allowed "to go home". I showed up one day while she was at dinner and her whole head was wrapped in white gauze. Oh, she fell. Not a place for my Jewish mama. One visit, when my friend was in a wheelchair, I wheeled her to visit her friends in independent living. I was reprimanded for doing that. OMG.

The rehab facility at lions gate is horrendous. Unprofessional, uncaring, unskilled staff. The worst thing is management completely ignores all these flaws and in fact does nothing to improve the experience of those who stay there. Night and weekend shifts are understaffed. If a patient needs help, they can wait for over an hour to get a response. Food is terrible. Exercise routines are not regimented. Shame on the people who run this place.

I know someone in the assisted living section of Lions Gate who has transitioned from independent living. I find the level of care given the dollars charged sorely lacking.

Not enough immediate staff for my relative needs - often more than 30 minutes. Constant yelling. Pretty facility but low compassion.

Our search for a retirement community is very complicated like the story of love. It's not an easy decision to make. First of all we like our home. Secondly we have certain criteria like we want the retirement community near to our doctors and still continue to see these doctors. Another is my wife would like to have a place where there's a pool that she can use almost on a daily basis. We visited Lions Gate twice and they meet most of our criteria. It is close to my wife's doctors and close to where she buys her food. She's a vegetarian and she wants to have organic food if possible. Lions Gate is mostly populated by Jewish people. We are not Jewish but we felt that the environment there is good. The problem is the apartments are situated in a large building and most people have to take a motorized car if they need to go to the people and other areas and my wife is embarrassed about that. She loves going to the pool and it's not easy to do. Their apartments though are large and I like that. They vary from one to two bedrooms and a den I believe. We would need two bedrooms or a room with a large den. The have full sized kitchen and laundry- these two are very very important for my wife. As far as the apartments are concerned, we don't have any issues. The problem is logistics-wise in getting from place to place. And this is also the same problem we have with the other facility that we looked at. We are still undecided about going to a retirement community. When you've reached almost the end of your life, this is one of the enormous decisions to make. There are so many factors involved. But if ever we are already decided to go, this is surely one of the places that we would like to stay.
