My friend was in Barn Hill for almost three months. In that time, I tried to contact the social worker for her wing (Sparta) at least 12 times leaving at least 5 messages to let her know my friend had no nearby help should they send her home before she was able to drive. Heather (with the unpronounceable last name) never called me back nor was she available when I visited. Today they brought my friend home where she promptly fell in her driveway. She declined emergency services and is currently all alone. It takes me between 3 and 4 hours to get to where she lives. It costs me $70 in gas and approx. $30 in tolls. I also have a life separate from this woman. Barn Hill staff has callous disregard for their patients and no concern whatsoever for the imposition they put on others. Disgrace.

My husband was at Barn Hill. It is night and day compared to where he is now. The patients did not come first in my opinion. My husband never got his medication on time. They're very understaffed, and unfortunately, they had to work extremely hard. The food was horrendous too. The place is broken into two sections, a newer section, and an older section. Frankly, their patients were treated differently depending on what section they were in. The rehab section was given more priority than the patients in the long-term section.

My wife was in Barn Hill, and I would say it was a nice place. I thought the care was very good. They even greeted me like an old friend. I liked it. She was in the Alzheimer's section, and they take care of them great. They had a movie almost every day, and when they didn't have a movie, they played games, they had a little activity going on, and we know that most Alzheimer's patients can't do everything. I thought it was a section that was specialized for Alzheimer's or people like that, and it was very good. They don't let them walk alone; the staff there was excellent. It seemed like an older facility. I think it was a nice clean place even as the older section. Anything that was dropped on the floor was quickly picked up; it was clean. Everything seemed to be in order, great. It was good.

The rooms in Barnhill Care Center had three people in them. It's crowded, the furniture are old and beat up. Their dining and recreation was no larger than my living room for all of those people and that was for a whole wing of the hospital. They called me to see if I was going to accompany my mom to a doctor's appointment. When I got there, she was not even groomed, and her hair had not been combed. So I just had them pack up her clothing and I removed her from that facility. My mom didn't eat the food there, and they lost my mom's lower dentures.

My mother has been a resident for one year after suffering from a stroke. The majority of the aides taking care of her have been wonderful. The activity director does her best to engage residents in various activities. I do find the people in the social worker office difficult to reach and it requires some effort to keep on top of things.
