My husband is in Douglas County Health Center. The place is not fancy. It's pretty sterile, but it's clean, and he gets wonderful care. That's the most important. There are not a lot of frills, and they have a beautiful garden area that he enjoys. The aids who take care of them are very caring and compassionate. Meals are good. They are nutritional.

A resident’s experience in this facility appears to be somewhat based upon the floor they reside on. Regardless, a resident’s experience is greatly determined by their benefits and income. For example, US military vets are placed in small rooms that hold 4 people. The rooms are full while other rooms sit empty on the same floor. The residents are not bathed often. Food is generally of poor quality. Not only should people avoid this place, but people should aspire to help current residents.

I have had a very negative experience with Douglas County Health Center. I have had two relatives involved in long-term stays at the health center. On my visits the staff has largely acted inattentive, over-worked and not welcoming of relatives who want to visit. The food served patients is extremely bland. The fees for those who pay to stay there (some pay, some are there courtesy of the county) are higher than at better care facilities we have visited. And the parking. You drive past and see a large, expansive lot and figure there should be plenty of space. But it's a nightmare on weekends and week days. The parking is not bad on week nights after eight p.m. but any other time is impossible. The neighborhood is not the best so I don't like hiking to my car after a visit.

The Douglas County Health Center is very clean. If I would compare it with other facilities in the area, I think the staff is a lot more caring and knowledgeable. The staff is highly trained to care for patients with Alzheimer's and Dementia. I haven't heard any complaints about the food. There are 4 people to a room. I would recommend this facility to others.
