Edgewood in Fremont was an absolutely amazing place for my family. It started with the administration and trickled down into the direct care staff. Director Kayla and Nursing Director Amy were both extremely knowledgeable and were super heartfelt about making sure my mom was going to get the best care she needed. They also were very supportive to my family which was helpful. The communication that they all had with each other was refreshing. It is a small home-like setup and my mom was able to help them cook homemade meals and clean, all the things she was doing at home but just needed a little extra help. They were always doing something for an activity which I was able to see on their Facebook page. The direct care staff were a strong reason we also chose this place. They were trained well and very compassionate. My mom was able to bond with all the staff which made her feel even more at home. She loved that she wasn't just a number here, they knew her likes and dislikes and were able to really "customize" her care which helped us feel at ease also. My mom had a private room but a couple of her friends lived in the same room across the hall. Overall I would recommend Edgewood Fremont to anyone who has a need for memory care. The care they give can't be matched.

As soon as we got into Edgewood Vista, we noticed quite a strong smell in the place, so that was an immediate turn-off. There were two aides there. The gal who showed us around, when I mentioned to her that there was something with that bathroom that we went by, she tried to pass it off as their cat litter box, which I knew it wasn't. The other thing we found out, too, though, is when they cook the meals there, and if the aides are cooking, they're trying to block the people from coming into the kitchen so they don't get burned. So they're putting up these temporary child gates, so that was another safety hazard. I just don't think they had enough staff for what they were doing. That's probably the biggest thing that needed an improvement, and a more secure way to either keep the people out of the kitchen or to hire a cook for the place instead of trying to use their aides, which only leaves one aide for the rest of their clients.
