My mom is currently in St. Luke's Surrey Place Skilled Nursing and Residential Care for rehab. This place is pretty fabulous. I wish she could afford to live there permanently, but she can't. And yeah. They don't have skilled nursing available unless you're in the rehab portion of this place. This place is beautiful, it's well staffed and the help is unbelievable. The whole facility is just absolutely fabulous, the food is fabulous because I tried the food off her plate. You can eat in the dining room and buy breakfast, lunch, or dinner with whoever you're visiting. They have a library, they have a chapel, and they have rehab like a workout room that's like most gyms. This place is unbelievable, it's nice. While they have a lot of agency workers, it's not the majority. The majority are actual employees of St. Luke's Hospital in Surrey place. This place is cheery and pleasant to be at. And their outdoor spaces, they have picnic areas outside, where you can meet with your family or friends to visit, and barbecue pits. You can bring pets to visit there. It's a pretty amazing place. Insurance is paying for it, it's expensive. They offer a lot of activities there.

If this helps one family, choose the best facility for their loved one then it is worth the post. Loved one called for a nurse to assist him into bed and no one ever showed up. Left him in a wheelchair all night long, without his needed oxygen. Upper management refused to discuss situation with family. One day patient was given two hard boiled eggs for lunch. Social worker, Linea, is rude and incompetent. She refused to perform her job responsibilities and instructed family to facilitate discharge with nurse. Family actually coordinated home health and oxygen delivery on their own bc she "didn't have time" (although she was given 5 days notice).

***Warning Warning****** - My father went downhill from the moment he was there, physical therapy was anywhere from only a half hour we he received it, to non-existent. Some of the help would not even help him with going to the bath room. A comment was stated "don't worry about getting anyone in trouble, we are so short staff, no one will be fired". The serve dinner at lunch and sandwiches for dinner, thought that was odd. Very seldom did my father get everything ordered. Ask about a COVID booster shot about six times and ever did receive it. The room need repair, windows rotted out, need cleaning, general disrepair. I didn't have time to check the facility out before hand and went by Medicare five star rating - DON'T be fooled, research after the fact - they were better years ago, BUT NOT NOW. The serve did get better when an appeal to Medicare was raised.

I was a patient for rehab. I was there 2 weeks. PT/OT were professional and good. Only a few nurses and CNA’s were worth working there. The food was ok but nothing you would want to eat forever. Absolutely NO teamwork!!!! Call lights not answered promptly. This facility gives St. Luke’s Hospital a bad name!!!!!!! Do not send your loved ones there!!!! And don’t you go!!!!!!

My mother was a resident in the Rehab area. The rooms were horrible. The staff was rude to my mother and relatives and did not provide safe care for my mother. "Safe" is the important word in the previous statement. They gave her medications that family members specifically called and asked them to stop giving as the medications were having horrific side effects. This is a horrible, terrible facility.

All residents at Surrey Place (St. Luke's) should have the right to be treated with respect and dignity. My 83 yr. old mother did not receive that treatment when she was transferred to Surrey Place for rehabilitation after being hospitalized at Missouri Baptist Hsp. for a lower back compression fracture due to a fall. After a week's stay, I (her daughter) politely asked a senior member of their nursing/management staff what the plan was for my mom's release. That simple and justified question turned into a very incorrect assumption that I was taking my mom home that day without a proper release. From that point on, my mom and I were treated with disrespect and retaliation. Additionally, the room she was in was filthy and obviously had not been thoroughly cleaned for a long time. When she pushed her call button to request help in using the bathroom or needing pain medicine or a blanket, she frequently waited 30 minutes for a nurse to respond ... presumably due to lack of staffing. Mom is on a strict diet since she is diabetic. Most meals included bread, pasta and a sugary dessert. Before I curiously asked what their expectations were of her physically, fortunately I was permitted to visit her following Covid restrictions as a personal caretaker. To ensure she received what she needed, I stayed with her during the day for 4 days trying to prevent poor care. The day she was approved to return to her assisted living facility, my mother and I felt threatened by their social worker's and nursing supervisor's lack of compassion and very unprofessional behavior. We will never return to Surrey Place St. Luke's.

Terrible care given to my grandfather. They take 30 minutes to over an hour to answer his call light when their policy states 5 minutes max. They take an hour to bring him his pain pills after he requested. Numerous times he had an accident in his pants while waiting on the nurses for so long to give him a bed pan. When he asks to be moved out of bed so he can work on his therapy (the reason he is there) they often tell him no. The nurses talk very rudely to him often. He has asked and we have asked many times for him to receive mental care and yet nothing has been done. Overall my family has had nothing but awful experiences here.

I had to pitch a fit in the hallway to get the former roommates area cleaned, four days after her discharge to a hospital with a GI/GU infection and her bed was still unmade and aides trying to give my Mom her possibly contaminated or infectious tissues and wipes. Wheelchairs are interchangeable between patients without any cleaning, really an infection control nightmare! I did not ever see an aide wash hands before giving care. Med tech (not a nurse) left Mom's pills on the table for her to take after she finished in the restroom. Her meds could have been taken by anyone; staff , patient or visitor. Mom was supposed to only be up with assistance but gave up on the aides after 15-30 minute waits. One aide told her she wasn't the only patient and if she didn't want to wet herself she should wear the Depends.

Surrey Place presents well. I stayed at Surrey Place after a hip replacement surgery and thought it so so. The day I was to leave a nurse came to my room and told me I had to leave. As if I wanted to stay. No one offered to help with my suitcase, no one offered to walk me to the door. Rude would be putting it mildly. Early in the morning, staff could be heard yelling at each other from opposite ends of the hall. Had to remind people to wash their hands. Presently a family member is at Surrey Place following a knee replacement. She was here previously after a knee replacement and was not happy with her treatment. If someone is in a place such as this, it is of critical importance that a family member be present as much as possible. It appears to be somewhat loosely run, staffed and managed. Sometimes it appeared as if the staff spent more time visiting than taking care of their patients. I personally saw a cleaning lady sit a trash bag on a patient's bed. Is that sanitary? I think not. If only Surrey Place was as good as it looked physically.
A concerned family member!

My Grandpa had to go to this place for rehab after he was in the hospital. Our family took turns staying with him 24/7 while he was there. The hospital he had been in put a catheter in him because he had a reaction to a medicine another rehab had given him. The hospital said when he got to surrey place they were supposed to take it out. Our family told the nursing staff over and over that it was supposed to come out. They argued with us every time and said they were NOT going to take it out. After about a week he started violently shaking and his urine was bloody. Nursing staff said they just wanted to watch him over night and thought he was fine. We told them no, we want an ambulance now. When he finally got to the ER they said that the catheter should have came out or been changed a long time ago (just like we told Surrey Place). Because surrey place wouldn't listen to us, my grandpa ended up in the ER. When the doctor took out the catheter all kinds of blood clots came out. Yes, Surrey Place is very pretty and might be an ok place for some people, but as for our experience it was aweful. They should really listen to a family member when they tell them something. We know Grandpa, they don't.

My dad lived at Surrey Place for 3 years. Everyone was very kind and friendly to him. The nurses are very caring and professional. The activities department has a variety of activities and engage the residents and families. The food is good and the residents are offered choices. The medical care was great. He was able to use the wonderful doctors at St. Luke's Hospital. His St. Luke's primary care doctor would come to Surrey Place to see him. It was very convenient.

St Lukes is of very high quality and very nice. The nursing home was fine and the nurses were smart, sharp and provided very good care. The other services were good and it's the best one I've seen in St. Louis.

Right now my mom is in St. Luke's Surrey Place getting occupational and physical therapy. The facility is very clean. There's a hand sanitizer everywhere you go and everybody is encouraged to always use it. Also their rooms are always very clean and very spacious. There are usually two patients in a room. Their eating area is also really clean-looking. Though we haven't tried eating there, but the food looks really good. The workers have been very accommodating. Everything about this facility has been very pleasant.

Most of the staff and nurses seemed pleasant. They were eager to assist us, they immediately began interacting with my grandmother and trying to make her feel at home, before we'd even signed her in. The residence has been in business for more than twenty years and still looks fairly decent. Generally it was a positive atmosphere. When you walk up to the front doors of the building, there's a few rocking chairs outside and they were occupied by a couple residents as we approached. They were friendly. The amenities are pretty standard and acceptable for the handicapped. They even have an "activities hour" where they gather the residents into the dining hall and engage in a game of cards or they play music. It's nice. A boost for morale.

My first impression of Surrey Place is that it is more like a retreat and less like a nursing home. When you walk in the main area is reminiscent of a lobby at a classic lodge. The staff were amazingly friendly and considerate of both my grandmother's needs as well as those of her family. All the staff seemed very educated and dedicated to their job. My grandmother received excellent care and attention while she was there. The food was exceptional. There was nothing institutional to it. It was more like fare found at an upscale restaurant. The other patients all seemed very pleased as well. One of the most striking things I noticed was coming out of there after visiting grandma smiling. I noticed other family members doing the same. That is not something you picture when you have to leave a loved one at a nursing home, but at Surrey Place, that always seemed to be the case. You could leave your parent or grandparent there knowing they were being well cared-for.

My grandmother spent a few weeks in this care facility after recovery from surgery. The nurses were attentive and she completed a portion of her physical therapy. This was a very difficult experience for her in the sense that recovery is never easy, but the process was made a little easier at Surrey Place.
