I moved into Becketwood. It's a rather unique cooperative setting on 12 acres, so it's a very nice setting, and cooperative means that the management is run by the members. There's a management staff, but the members do have a board of directors and can manage a number of the affairs of the organization. There are 211 units in this building, and they range from a small one-bedroom to a three-bedroom. So, there's a range of costs involved depending upon what you want and so forth. And then there is the possibility of having in-house, or people come into the building to provide extra services of one kind or another, housekeeping of one kind or another. The staff does a very good job. They offer one meal a day. The food is very good, it's a variety, sometimes breakfast, sometimes lunch, and sometimes supper depending on the day. It varies, but the kitchen does a good job. They do have various activities and events, and I have participated. There's a number of excursions, entertainment of one kind or another that comes to the building. It's a mixture of things, so it works very nicely. An example is to go on an excursion to visit various parts of Minneapolis and just to drive around in the bus and have a moderator explain the neighborhood that we're in at that particular point in time, and then that excursion generally would include stopping for lunch or something, so it's a nice kind of an excursion. I'm quite happy here.

My husband and I went to Becketwood. We like the philosophy of the people. They do a lot of things that we would want done. Like they're involved in recycling and gardening, and they garden in sustainable ways. We like the fact that they have a lot of educational programs that would be things that we would be interested in. The facility is okay. It's an older building. It used to be an orphanage that they converted, but they've done a good job of converting most of the apartments. The small apartments are tiny. We have to probably go to two bedrooms to find something comfortable for us. The structure of the building is good and it's very clean. When we were there, it was fine. We were greeted, taken care of, and shown around, and people seemed to be involved and friendly. The rooms are on the smaller side. The layout was okay.

My friend is a resident at Becketwood. They have a lot of activities like gardening and grounds care, movie events, book events, and some events where groups can travel outside of the facility to do things together, and even learn a language. There's a large dining room where the residents can go down but as far as I know, all of the apartments have working kitchens where you can prepare your own meals. My friend's apartment is an open-concept living room/dining area. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and storage space. When you enter the building and you sign in, the staff is very prompt and very attentive. They know what's going on in the building and they know who belongs there and who doesn't. It's an older building but it was a wonderful spot to be in.

We had friend living at Becketwood. The place is very well designed and very lovely. The staff are very well trained and very accommodating, but the place is just too expensive for us.
