I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend is currently in Homestead of Anoka transitional care. He is a fall risk and there aren’t any rails on the bed. The nurse who didn’t speak or understand English very well, was supposed to change his Foley catheter to a leg strap cath. She didn’t seem to know what she was doing. When she finally got the foley bag switched to the leg bag, she emptied the foley bag in the bathroom, rinsed it and hung it in the shower. I went in the bathroom to see what she had done and there was water on the floor. Someone could have slipped and fell. I spoke to the nurse supervisor with a few complaints and concerns about his treatment and didn’t get anywhere because of the language barrier. The 2 aides on duty just saunter around and don’t seem to care about the residents. Would not recommend anyone going there but, it was the only place available when he was discharged from the hospital.

The Homestead at Anoka provided OT and PT to my husband and I think the staff was great, but they were understaffed. I don't think they had enough of them, especially in the PT area. I don't know about other areas, but the area he was in (PT), I know that when he would ring the bell to go to the bathroom and after 10 or 15 minutes, he would get up and go himself (he used his walker). They preferred that he call them, but when he called, they did not come. If you needed them, they weren't there. He wasn't as bad as some of the other patients, but I would be afraid that if his condition was worse, I wouldn't have liked their facility. All the staff that I worked with, if I asked any questions, they'd tell me who I should see. Like if I had a PT question, they sent me to talk to the people I needed to talk to. They were great in that sense as far as getting your questions answered. There was this gal who set up having in-home occupational therapy for my husband when he was getting ready to leave and she was awesome. I thought the cleanliness was pretty good. Although my daughter-in-law had some issues one day when she was there and stopped on the way out and said that there were a couple of little holes in his seats, I didn't notice anything like that. I thought they kept it very nice. My husband liked everything about the food. When you're not feeling top-notch, are you going to eat everything? But he liked everything he got. They had other activities. You could go and have dinner and breakfast with everybody and they had games you could go play. He just wasn't interested in that stuff.

I cannot recommend Homestead. We had a family member stay here for rehabilitation following a hospital stay. From what we could see, this is a very poorly managed facility. The staff doesn't seem to communicate with one another. The staff will rarely return calls when requesting status about the individual staying there. There policy is to have only one Care Conference with the patient regardless of the duration of their stay. Other facilities have one every week. While there, he complained of receiving rough handling during assistance when getting in/out of bed or being dressed. The food quality is poor, with the main concern being that it is cold by the time it arrives at their room. Homestead does not have any residents eat together in their dining area. At the end of his stay, they played a dirty trick on us when the social worker told us one day prior to discharge into an assisted living facility that he wasn't in good enough shape to go there. However, the nurse from the assisted living facility had already seen him just a couple of days earlier and had approved the transfer to their facility. Homestead was obviously trying to get more money out of us by exaggerating his condition in order to extend his stay at Homestead, even though he had received therapy while there.

My mother was in the transitional care part of the facility. It was a miserable experience for her and our family. Communication with the family was non-existent. The staff are not happy and handled her roughly in the evenings. She was afraid to speak up, worried they would treat her worse. Not all of the staff were terrible, there were a few who were kind and friendly. They seem to be agency staff and not dedicated employees of the facility. I understand staffing issues, but there should be better screening and/or supervision. I WOULD NOT recommend this facility to anyone looking for a safe place for a family member. I regret not doing my due diligence to learn about the facilities suggested to us in the hospital.

I've visited The Homestead at Anoka. The staff seemed to be helpful and very knowledgeable from what they showed us at the time. The upkeep was excellent, everything was clean, and it's a newer establishment so it's easier to take care of. I talked to some of the residents, they seemed happy and comfortable with what they have. There was a large group in the activity hall doing activities. It was the best one I've seen.

It seems that the apartments at The Homestead at Anoka were a nice size and geared well for seniors. They have patios on all units, they have parking inside, they have carts down there so you can put your groceries in it and then take them up the elevator to your room, which I think was very insightful. They were playing bingo in the dining room when I was there, but they gave me a sheet on what activities they had, like card games and others. The staff I met were fine and friendly too. The only negative I have about the place is that it's huge and sometimes walking is difficult for me.

We toured The Homestead at Anoka, and I liked it. They were very good, it was just very nice and very clean, and the people were very nice. They had bingo, arts, and several other things. They also have a happy hour, I believe. They have hair washing, manicures, and everything, like everywhere else.

I went to The Homestead at Anoka. I asked about their activities, and any questions I had were answered. There's a garage that you pay extra for, and I was impressed with the appearance of the place. It was neat and accommodating. It has various levels of care, and it has independent living and assisted living close at hand.

My mother is currently in continuing care rehab side. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone it's not fit for a soul. Absolutely very little communication with her, very little communication with family, no one knows what's going on, never get a return call from a nurse, hardly can even get ahold of them no one answers, leave you sit in wheelchair forever, wasn't notified when she was injured, she's called me crying because she has no idea why or what's going on. Left in a bed no bedrails apparently you have to order them, are you kidding me??? No one speaks English. Doesn't tell her what her pills are, tells her temps 130. And you call this safe and these people are educated?? I'm a damn nurse this doesn't fly anywhere but apparently here, however they will be reported. Safety major concern among others If you have other options seriously take them😠😠😠😠

I am/was a resident of this facility

The food was so unacceptable! I won’t feed it to my dogs! The care was so bad that they would try to over Medicate me on several occasions. Or, skip dosages by several hours. Nursing staff would have to be working 12-16 hour shifts because they didn’t have appropriate staff coverage. Physical therapy department was a joke. They just were out of school and didn’t know what to do with a exercise program. Cleanliness of the place , you had to beg to get your sheets changed. The dining area was so gross! The floor was so nasty! The State really needs to review this location because it is so mismanaged!

We moved my mother into The Homestead at Anoka. The original nurse on the memory care was fantastic. The lady who took over was nice, but she doesn't have the same personality as the original nurse did. It's working out fine and she's adapting. It's very clean and organized and the nurses are very patient. They handle these people with memory loss really well. They also do crafts.

Homestead at Anoka was very nice, and the people seemed very nice. They had a lot to offer. It's in a great location, but a little on the high end for rental. They've got a bus for shopping and medical appointments, church services in the facility, gatherings for people that live there, and meals (but for an extra charge). They offer an awful lot. The facility looked pretty new.

My mom moved to The Homestead in October of 2017 from an assisted living facility where she had entered hospice care the previous July. I almost didn't even consider this long term care facility due to a few bad reviews. However, someone said to me, "people are more likely to actually write a bad review from one isolated incident than to write a good review even though their experience may have been beyond their expectations." As it turns out, he was right! I scheduled a tour and was extremely pleased with the amenities, layout, cleanliness, friendliness of the staff and overall updated feel of the building. My mom's surroundings were very important to her. There are many over sized windows, large rooms (most of them are private), gathering areas with comfortable and stylish furniture, wide hallways, a secure building, activities everyday, and light and bright meal areas. Definitely, not your typical "nursing home." When my mom moved there she actually "perked up" due to the attentive staff and having all of her needs met in a timely manner. The staff was warm and caring. My mom passed away just 2 months after moving there but I must say, she really enjoyed living there. Even though the decision to move my mom to a long term care facility was hard, I am so happy I did and The Homestead at Anoka was the right choice. Thank you to all of the staff!

My sister and I really liked The Homestead of Anoka. It was a wonderful community. My mom would have been able to have her dog and take her outside for walks. The dining room was absolutely fantastic. They had a store to shop in. The staff was very attentive, and when you needed help, they would come. They only had four apartments for low income and there was a waiting list.

My mother was here for a rehab stay. The staff was not very responsive at all to her needs, and on several occasions when I went to the station to ask about the delay, I would find it deserted. Nurse call response times often over 20 mins. Medications not being delivered on schedule. No communication between departments and staff. Mostly poor English speaking staff, which was tough enough for me, I can't imagine someone with any difficulty hearing being able to understand them.. One time my mother called me at home from the room to see if I could get someone to respond to her call as she needed to use the bathroom but could not get there unassisted... Luckily I had a card from the admissions director and called her cell, finally a response.. Having worked at a nursing home myself some years ago, I can't imagine what would have happened if we operated this way. Interesting how when I started to tell people this and complain, how they shipped her back to the hospital pretty quickly... Hmmmm.... Honestly, If I could give this place a "0" stars, I would. Not good, stay away.

My mom was at The Homestead at Anoka for rehab and hospice program when she passed away. My mother had occupational and physical therapy four times a week and had all of her physical hygienic cares met. She attended bingo, spiritual services, medication management and administration and basic monitoring. The staff was lovely, very helpful, and very energetic. They allowed my sister and I to live with my mom right in her room for the last 17 days that she was alive. They brought us a cart every other day filled with drinks, coffee, iced water, pop, and all sorts of cookies and fruit. They brought us recliners so we could sleep there, and we had full access to the kitchen, so we could heat our food. They were very accommodating to us and very gentle to my mother. My mom had a studio and shared a bathroom with her neighbor.

My mom was there in transitional care for a month. The help is anything but helpful. Long waits for assistance. Very slow moving, non-english speaking staff. And tons of attitude when they finally do get there. I wouldn't leave my dog there

We went to The Homestead at Anoka, which has assisted living and independent living. It was beautiful, brand-new, and very clean. We sat down and talked a little bit. Then they told us the prices. A one-bedroom apartment, the smallest apartment they had, was $1,700 without services, and we couldn't afford that. They had a nice dining room, a fitness place where they did exercises, and a little bistro where you could pick up a little sandwich or snack.

Homestead at Anoka was number one in the list. This one is brand new; it just opened about four months ago. They’ve got a patio, balcony, and sun room. Everything was brand new and included. They’ve got underground parking and activities available. I did review the monthly plan; everyday they’ve got 5 or 6 things for the people to do plus all the other amenities that they had.

The Homestead at Anoka was nice. The little apartments were nice. We looked at a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom, they were small but OK, they were very nice. It was conveniently located to most of the family members. It is a nice safe area. They provide the meals as well.
