I moved my father to the Gilbert after his dementia progressed beyond what his assisted living situation could provide. I was looking for a good place where he could remain as his needs changed. We found that in the Gilbert. The non-profit facility is newly remodeled and very well staffed. The Gilbert is situated on the Huron River with lovely views and is surrounded by a neighborhood of beautifully remodeled Victorian homes. It has assisted living, memory care and nursing units so residents do not need to move as their difficulties progress. The staff is extremely well trained, caring and friendly and Dad felt at home immediately. Every staff member from therapists, aides, custodial etc...goes out of their way to engage dad. He is encouraged to participate in the many activities they have for the residents. His room is lovely with new cabinetry, lots of storage, a large picture window overlooking a garden and a private bath. He has all his medical needs attended to at the facility without having to be taxied around to doctors, dental, eye, etc... appointments. I would highly recommend the facility.

My mother-in-law used to be at The Gilbert Residence. But they have a high turnover of employees, --which is one of the reasons we kind of left. Although we brought her home because we thought that their price was a little too heavy. Because they moved her from supportive care to assisted living, the price went up to almost $600, and we couldn’t afford that. As far as the amenities and the amount of care that she got, it was top-notch. They had us over for Thanksgiving and for Christmas parties, they have a big party during the summer or the Hawaiian party, and the food was excellent. They had a lot of activities such as musicians coming in, games, and a lot of other stuff.

I visited The Gilbert Residence. I have two friends who live there now. The rooms are studio rooms. All of them are nice, and they vary in price by $100 or so. I put my mother on the waiting list there. They actually have nicer cabinetry in the rooms than the other facility does. They provide a bed and a dresser, whereas in the other facility, you have to bring everything. The Gilbert Residence is a small facility. The staff was very nice. A lady came out of a meeting and immediately took care of me. She showed me a room. You can go in as a senior person in an apartment and stay there until you die. If you need to be in memory care, they have a spot, and if you need nursing, they have a section. So, that is very nice. They have a couple of activities that were different. They have a chef there as well.

Gilbert Residence is a combination of nursing home and memory care unit; my mom is there. The facility itself is very nice. They seemed to have a great reputation, and everything that we have seen so far would indicate that it is a very good place for her to be. They try to scale things to where the person is at, so that’s where you come in. There are people who are in different levels of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and they have different things to where a person is. It is locked down; she can’t get out and wonder off. They have a very nice security for them.

My mother will be moving to Gilbert Residence soon. She has been living in a highly recommended assisted living facility near my brother's family for a few years but has to move since her dementia worsened. Several very experienced and knowledgable social workers and the owners of her assisted living facility recommended the Gilbert Residence to my brother as a top-of-the-line facility for dementia patients in this area close to my brother's home. It is a very difficult decision to choose the right place for your mother when she needs 24/7 help and can't be cared for in the family home. My mother has always taken loving care of our immediate and extended family when she was able. I am so happy we have found a place where she will be given the same kind of care. I will update my review when I visit Mom in April 2015 from my home in Florida.

I would describe Gilbert Residence as warm and caring. The staff seemed to be interested in the residents. The people who live there seemed to be comfortable and happy. I've known about this place for quite some time. I have visited on several occasions, and it?s rated as one of the nicer ones in the area. A section of it is pretty old. I was pleased they answered all of our questions. We saw a room; it seemed pretty nice. I think it could use more space. I think all nursing homes could use more space.

Gilbert Residence is near our house. It would be nice for my parents but they're too expensive. They had a waiting list of six months. They have a variety of different rooms that I know of and they are spacious.

My sister is going to the Gilbert Residence in June. The place and the people were nice. The staff that we saw were very cordial and friendly. The room that they showed us was very nice, clean, and has a lot of storage. And since we lived in Ypsilanti in 1953, my sister is quite familiar about the place and the people who've been there. She liked the facility and says it's nice, but for me it is luxurious because of its carpeting and nice furniture.

I had a good experience here, the staff were friendly, and the place was well kept. I am giving it three stars because it wasn't in a very nice part of town (there was a lock on the door) and it seemed like the residents could have had more areas outside to be in for nature. Overall, it was a good facility, but I would keep looking to determine if this is the right one for you.

I visited The Gilbert Residence and I was extremely impressed with this facility. Then we decided to shift our grandmother here. The residents were treated extremely well by staff, better than I have seen at most other care facilities. The staff was very patient as well. The food timings are good and food quality is also very high. The rooms are airy, neat and clean. I met few residents who were in true peace of mind and were happy living there. Residents undertake miscellaneous functions to celebrate and let every one form part of the gatherings. It was almost heart breaking to have to choose a facility for our loved one, but this place has met beyond any expectations I ever had. They have beautiful dinning and spacious rooms with a grandfather farm type porch. The have a secure harbor unit which caters for Alzheimer's and dementia patients and a very good activities program in a spacious living room for the residents. The nursing staff is also available round the clock to provide all kind of assistance. The facility is doing a noble job very well. Thank you. Keep up the good work!
