I had a full tour at St. Joseph Village and it was very nice. They had two different types of rooms, one was for assisted living and the other was for independent living. It was very nice and very modern. It is relatively new. It's not like an old, dilapidated building. They had walking paths around. It was convenient. It was right across the street basically from the main hospital. In this particular place, if a person was in independent living and then needed to go to assisted living, all they did was change floors. The independent living had a stove, a microwave, and a refrigerator.

We liked St. Joseph Village really well, and we had put a deposit down on a unit there. We told them upfront that my brother-in-law had some memory loss and the person doing sales said that she didn't think there would be any problem, but they didn't have locked doors and a specific memory unit. We went through the whole admission-type process. They had the unit down on a deposit because it was being renovated at the time. We waited two months and within a week before they were scheduled to move in, they called and said that they would not take my brother-in-law because they thought he might wander out of the building and they didn't want the liability of it. We were very turned off by them right then and there because they knew upfront that he had some memory loss and they told us that they could handle it, but they backed out at the last minute. They did get our deposit back. Initially, we liked the place very well. It was a very convenient location. It was right close to the hospital that they use and some of their doctors. It was within an hour's drive from myself and one of their children, but it just didn't work out. The general staff was friendly, but the administration didn't rate too well. They had a lot of activities that they could have participated in. That was one of the reasons why we liked the place initially. They had a salon, a gym, and an activity center. They had puzzles, games, and planned trips. They had a shuttle service to doctor visits that were within ten miles of the facility.

I looked at an apartment at St. Josephs Village. I was quite pleased with what they had available. The staff was helpful, very pleasant, and very professional. It had a very pleasant atmosphere and it's in a nice location. It would be a very nice place to live. Everybody was very pleasant. It's an excellent facility, very clean, very modern, very pleasing to the eyes, and very appealing.
