Jackson County, which is home to about 160,000 residents, about 17 percent of whom are aged 65 and over, is served by the Michigan Great Lakes Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, almost 13 percent of seniors receiving Medicare benefits are living with Alzheimer's disease or dementia.Â
While some memory care facilities in Jackson County may occupy their own freestanding building, in most cases, dementia care is provided in assisted living facilities. In this county, as in all of Michigan, these facilities may also be called homes for the aged and are licensed and monitored by the Department of Human Services. Jackson County has three memory care facilities, all of which are located in the city of Jackson.Â
