With a population of 73.179, Albany is a scenic city in southwest Georgia located along the Flint River. There are around 9,500 Individuals 65 and older, some of whom have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. In Georgia there are approximately 140,000 individuals with cognitive impairments, and for those living in the city of Albany, there are two memory care facilities.
These facilities are regulated by the Georgia Department of Community Health. In Albany and within the state, memory care facilities are referred to as memory care units within a personal care home or assisted living facility. They provide basic personal care, like grooming, bathing and medication administration in a safe and secure environment. Many also offer therapeutic activities, like exercise, dancing, gardening and music.
