My husband has been at Lutheran Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center for two weeks now. It's a typical rehab. He gets decent care during the day and horrible care when the shifts change, and they're short-staffed. The people that work the dayshift are pretty good, but once the 3:00 to 11:00 and the 11:00 to 7:00 come on, it's like they don't care. His room is very nice and clean. It's got a TV in there, but very limited channels. The place has been kind of redone not too long ago, so overall, its appearance is very nice. He doesn't go to the dining area. He eats in his room, and half the time he doesn't eat it. The food is subpar. They could improve on communication. I have to talk to the social worker all the time, and she has to intervene with all the issues. Overall, the staff that cares for the residents needs to be giving them the time that's due to them, not "slam-bam, thank you, ma'am, out of the room." They don't allot the time. They just run in, run out. They don't answer the call buttons. We just addressed this situation this morning with the social worker there. The first couple of days when he was there, he was upset because there were a couple of people that came in to work on him and they were standing over him, speaking in a foreign language at each other and laughing. He said, "How do I know if they're not laughing at me?" That happened a couple of times when people were on their telephones, speaking in a foreign language. We addressed it with the social worker and she said she was going to take care of it because that's against their policy to speak in front of a patient like that. We've had three separate occasions where I've had to address things, but this happens in every single facility he's ever been to. They don't care.
